Tillerson: 'I didn't want this job'

By Rebecca Savransky - 03/21/17 10:42 PM EDT

Rex Tillerson said the job of secretary of State wasn't a role he sought out.

"I didn't want this job. I didn't seek this job," Tillerson told the Independent Journal Review in an interview during his recent Asia trip.

When asked why he agreed to take on the position of secretary of State, Tillerson said his wife "told me I'm supposed to do this."

During the interview, Tillerson said he had never met President Trump before the election. After his victory, the president wanted to talk with Tillerson "about the world."

“When he asked me at the end of that conversation to be secretary of State, I was stunned," Tillerson said.

Tillerson later told his wife about the offer.

“I told you God’s not through with you," he said his wife told him.

The former ExxonMobil CEO added: “I was supposed to retire in March, this month. I was going to go to the ranch to be with my grandkids."

Eh, and?

This reads way different that the Lefty Hill is spinning this. This sounds like a humble guy being modest. Not some guy upset that he is in this role now or hates Trump.

A headline construed to convey something quite different that what the man wanted to communicate.

In public service it is often said the best people do not seek such jobs.

And the recent Chairman of Exxon is completely sane, and the Republican President is trying to do exactly the things real conservatives have asked for years.

Anybody not seeing it, has their head up their unspeakable.

That was a good outfit to do work for.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hey Smokin....   I bet the key word there was "WAS"

Ole' Rex pulled the biggest blunder in XON/XOM history (Even surpasing the Valdez), by making an acquisition of this manner.  Bought high, and then sat on an industry whose product (NG) price  has been in the toilet since.

Sadly, XOM values people who operate like robots, so that they can follow systems.  They have basically shut the door to inovators.
