And Democrats have no one to blame but themselves.

We’ve written many times about the Democrats’ destruction in 2013, under the leadership of Harry Reid, of the filibuster for judicial nominees below the Supreme Court level.

Most of the columns written recently, including by us, discuss whether Republicans will extend that “Nuclear Option” to the current Supreme Court vacancy.

And certainly, that’s very important.

From the article:

The judiciary also is a top priority for McConnell, who stands ready to help the Trump White House identify candidates and grease the sometimes-laborious Senate confirmation process.

I pray this is true.

Dems will now claim that their nuclear option should be voided since Reid violated Senate rules in getting it enacted.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Sorry, but I've always thought the filibuster was crap. If you win a majority in a legislative chamber, then all it should take is 50+1% pass or shoot down something.

One lone fool should not be able to talk for 40 hours straight so that 60 votes are required to break it. We are not a democracy, yet we are not a tyranny of the minority either. At some point a simple majority should be sufficient if you truly want to follow the will of the people, even in a representative republic.

I realize this works against us when we are the minority, but to me losing elections shouldn't get you a booby prize in the legislative branch.

That sounds about right. They have no shame.

I don't like McConnell to much, but he does deserve some credit for really slowing to a stop the confirmation process. Now we will see if this was in vain or if the Pubs will find the courage to push through good judges and if necessary end the filibuster for the SCOTUS.

GWB got 11 more Judges through in his 8 years, 327, to obummers 316, they both got 2 SCJ, with mixed results, Bush did this with Reid running the Senate like his own little fiefdom the last 2 years, while obummer was eating McConnell's lunch and slapping him around for his lunch money.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.
