Dem Senator: I’m kinda regretting nuking the filibuster on presidential appointments
posted at 8:01 am on November 30, 2016 by Ed Morrissey

When Harry Reid and the rest of the Senate Democrats teamed up three years ago to nuke the filibuster on presidential appointments, Republicans warned them they’d live to regret it. Now that day has arrived, and Chris Coons tells CNN’s Kate Bolduan he does regret it — mainly because, as Republicans tried to tell Democrats, they have no way of stopping a Republican president from appointing “extreme” nominees to key positions. Coons, who is trying to block Jeff Sessions’ nomination as Attorney General, says that Republicans need to help him and other Democrats out now.

I'd take a week off to hitch a ride with you.

Chris Coons never impressed me as being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
As usual when the democrats lose they want the Republicans to work with them to keep the status quo, it's not fair you know if the Republicans win and actually enact conservative policies.

IIRC, the Rats also ended the filibuster for all judgeships other than the SCOTUS.

The Pubs should not only maintain the ban on filibusters but should threaten to expand it to the SCOTUS as well if the Rats try to stop Trump's appointments.

Not a bad idea. Use it for leverage. Dems understand strong arming.

Pandora's box has been opened, and you can't put toothpaste back into the tube once the horse has been let out of the barn.

IOW, the filibuster is dead for all intents and purposes. Harry Reid ended it a few years ago, so why continue the pretense? We know what's going to happen the minute the Democrats regain control of the Senate.

The Pubbies are Charlie Brown, and the Democrats are Lucy with the football.

Harry Reid ended it for cabinet appointees and non-USSC judges. He never ended it for legislation or USSC justices.

Thanks for the clarification.
