Former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is being considered for a post in the Donald Trump administration, Politico reported.
Ford served five terms in Congress from 1997 to 2007 following the retirement of his father Harold Ford Sr., who had served the same district since 1983. He currently lives in New York and works for Morgan Stanley, but is a frequent guest on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," where he offers political commentary.
Ford donated to Democrat Hillary Clinton's campaign this year, but the moderate is also friends with Trump's children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, and Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner, who is expected to play a key role in Trump's White House.
Politico quoted two sources as saying Ford has not met with Trump, but "emissaries" have put out feelers for Ford's interest in positions, including transportation secretary and Ford did not flat-out decline.
"He's happy doing what he's doing," one source told the site. "If the President-elect called, then of course, he would listen carefully."
Ford declined to discuss the issue, telling Politico he is on vacation with his family this week.
