Fox News has offered its biggest star north of $20 million a year to stay. But the hotly anticipated, and widely expected, auction for her talents has not materialized.

Perhaps as much as the candidates themselves, Megyn Kelly has dominated this interminable election cycle. She kicked off the first Republican primary debate with a sharp and prescient question in which she catalogued some of the nastiest remarks that Donald Trump had issued about women. Not only did she engage in a very public feud with Trump, but she also took on her own boss, Roger Ailes, in the wake of his sexual-harassment scandal. (Ailes has vehemently denied all allegations, though his former employer did pay a $20 million settlement to accuser Gretchen Carlson.) Meanwhile, Kelly has become an improbable feminist icon, who helped encourage other women, including former Fox News broadcaster and current CNN host Alisyn Camerota, to come forward and share their own stories. In the process, as her ratings hovered just below those of her rival Bill O’Reilly, Kelly also became arguably the most coveted anchor on television, just as her contract was set to expire in July 2017.
