RUSH: You know what's funny to watch? What's funny to watch is the Drive-Bys trying to portray Colin Powell and his hacked emails as devastating to Trump. It's... Folks, this is hilarious! They're doing everything they can to ignore the negative things Colin Powell said about -- and, by the way, this is gonna change the day for Colin Powell. Colin Powell is not thought to speak this way. People don't think that Colin Powell even thinks this way.
Colin Powell is not a "partisan." He doesn't say mean things about people except the people who deserve to have mean things said about them, like me. But, other than that, he doesn't criticize establishment types. And look what's in these emails. My God, we could make at least two T-shirts with nothing but Colin Powell quotes on the front! In fact, that may be an idea. They've been trying to push the idea that Powell won't be voting for Trump because Powell called Trump "a national disgrace."
Ha! Who saw that coming?
No, the news is (laughing) Bill Clinton is still... (pause) (interruption) Well, I know he said it, but we... You know, we have standards. We have standards on this program. But the thing is, if you look these emails it's a safe bet that Colin Powell is not going to be endorsing Hillary Clinton. I mean, that's the message here. There's a guy named Jeff Leeds. He's a huge donor. He emailed Colin Powell on July 24, 2014, to tell him he'd gotten Rudy Giuliani to admit that President Obama's a decent guy and that Hillary is not stoppable in the 2016 election.
That's what this Jeff Leeds guy told Powell that he got Giuliani to admit. Powell said, "You know, I'd rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect. She's a 70-year-old person, long track record. She's hampered by being greedy, not transformational, with a husband still dicking bimbos at home." But he got out of that one by credit that goes to the New York Post. I know what he's talking about.
The New York Post ran a story about some babe that Clinton knows and who visits Chappaqua when Hillary's not around. Just... (interruption) The Energizer, right, right. The Energizer Bunny, whatever her name is. But there's a whole slew of these women, and everybody knows it, and here's Colin Powell referring to it: How can you vote for Hillary, how can you respect her, when her husband's "still dicking bimbos up in Chappaqua at home!"
"Still dicking bimbos at home." Colin Powell, Colin Powell saying this in an email. Do you ever think your email's gonna hacked? You know what you ought to start doing? Everybody, you ought to... Every email you write, you better write it with the thought in mind, "What if the world saw this someday?" Another email Colin Powell describes Hillary as "hubris."
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I want to go back to these Colin Powell emails, because, folks, let me tell you something.
We actually learn a lot here. We learn more than you think. If you know how to read these things -- if you know how to attach the meaning in these emails to the real-world lives of the people writing these emails and commenting on them -- you can learn a lot more than just what Colin Powell thinks of Bill Clinton. Let's go through them. "Former secretary of state Colin Powell ripped into Hillary Clinton in several personal emails over the years," while the Drive-By Media is trying to say that Powell really ripped into Trump.
They're doing that to try and not report what Powell said and wrote about Hillary. This according to a document dump of hacked emailed on the website DCLeaks.com. CBS News, no less, waded through the documents. They picked out some of the most interesting emails blasting Hillary. "In one blunt..." I mentioned this to you before the break at the top of the hour.
"In one blunt 2014 email with Democratic donor Jeffrey Leeds, [Colin] Powell had this to say of Clinton: 'I would rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect. A 70-year person with a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not [sic] transformational, with a husband still dicking bimbos at home (according to the [New York Post])." So that's one email that Colin Powell sent describing Hillary.
That is quite an accusation, especially at Bill's advanced age. It's no wonder the Drive-Bys are trying to concentrate on what Powell said about Trump, because these are devastating. And this is Colin Powell. He's as close... Well, he's as close to untouchable, Mr. Pure, Mr. Clean as Washington, DC, has to offer. Or he was. In another email to the same guy, "mega donor" Jeffrey Leeds -- this is August of 15 -- Colin Powell weighed in on his own use of private emails for State Department business.
Quote: "Agree, press has started asking Peggy and me about our use. We have answered 3 IG questionnaire..." That's inspectors general. "We have answered 3 IG questionnaire and are clean," he told this guy. "A newsie asked today to interview me on my use. Told them to read my book, Chapter on 'Brainware.'" So he calls journalists newsies. "A newsie asked today to interview me on my use" of private email servers. "Told them to read my book, Chapter on 'Brainware.'"
You ready for what...? Look, folks, I'm just reading what the hacked emails reveal. They are going... I don't want to say the word. Okay, let me just tell you he didn't say "screw it up," but it's close. He said, "They are going to [screw] up the legitimate and necessary use of emails with friggin record rules. I saw email more like a telephone than a cable machine. As long as the stuff is unclassified. I had a secure State.gov machine. Everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris."
(summarized) Yeah, yeah, I did but not the way she's doing it. I didn't use State Department email on my private server. No way, no how. I never went there. Personal stuff, yeah. But she's gonna screw it all up with these rules. She's screwing it up for everybody. Everything she touches, she "screws up with hubris." That email continues. "I told you about the gig I lost at a University because she so overcharged them they came under heat and couldn't any [sic] fees for awhile. I should send her a bill."
Folks, that is... I can't tell you how telling that is. Let me translate this for you. Powell is complaining about Hillary in this email to a mega donor of the Democrat Party. He said, "I told you about the gig," meaning the speech opportunity, speech gig. "I told you about the gig I lost at a University because she so overcharged them they came under heat and couldn't [pay] any fees for awhile." The ruling class, this crowd is obsessed with speaking gigs.
Hillary: $20 million in two years making 20-minute speeches to banks. Bill and Hillary Clinton's net worth: 80% of what they have earned since leaving the White House is from speech income. And apparently it's the same thing with Colin Powell. Apparently speech income is hugely important to these people, and he's ticked off here because Hillary went and gave a speech at some university that also asked him.
She charged them so much, when it was learned how much they paid her, they got all kind of heat, and they had to cancel subsequent speeches or ask people to give them for nothing because they had run out of money, and there was so much heat on, they couldn't keep up the facade. Now, these speeches, it's made to look like that the money is not a factor. The people who get paid try to downplay it, "Oh, no. I care about these issues from my heart!
"I care about the country. I'm devoted to the education of young minds. I thoroughly enjoyed a trip to campus, spending time there at the academy, academe. It's a great opportunity to share with the students that show up the breadth of knowledge I've acquired over the course of the years. It's the least I can do to pay forward." The least you can do? You're getting paid six figures to show up and mumble this stuff!
I think this is a big discovery.
I think it's a big find, that that's how these people grease their skids. (interruption) Well, no. No, no. Not... You can make money however you want, as far as I'm concerned. I just think there's a lot of phoniness attached to this. And how much value is it, in truth, when colleges and universities don't invite conservatives to come make speeches and certainly don't pay them to? But I just... Besides all that, look at what he's angry about.
Hillary has so overcharged, has such hubris, that there wasn't any money left for him. So he didn't get his speaking gig. The ruling class is very, very obsessed with these speech gigs, folks. I've never charged for one. Never, ever. I even pay my own expenses to get to them. I never felt right charging people to make a speech. I can't. I don't know why. I can't tell you why. I just felt... I've never -- and I've been offered a lot of money and I've never accepted it.
"In a recent email, dated August 23, 2016, Colin Powell called Hillary's excuse for using an email server a 'dumb' one. 'Dumb. She should have done a "Full Monty" at the beginning. She was using email when she took over. They put the personal system in the basement a few months later... She didn't need any advice or ok from me; she was already doing it. I gave her written guidance on why and how I had been doing it.
"'I warned her staff three times over the past two years not to try to connect it to me. I am not sure [Hillary Rodham Clinton] even knew or understood what was going on in the basement.'" Now, you might think that's exculpatory. That's not what that is. He's saying (summarized), "I don't know how much she knows about any of this stuff. I don't know how much she knows. She's not even aware." Smartest Woman in the World, and look at all the things that she admits she doesn't understand or doesn't know.
"In an Aug. 21 email bashing Donald Trump, Powell talked about his frustration with Clinton, as well. 'It could have been so easy for her just tell what she did, a "Full Monty." Last night several folks came up to me to say, "She threw you under the bus." I replied, "Don't be silly, she is under the bus." The FBI guys loved me and so did the IG types. But conversation turned to: "Clintons always trying to use you."'"
That's Colin Powell: "'Clintons always trying to use you.' Most folks up here detest Trump and won't vote for him, but dislike her intensely at the same time. Ah, well the country will decide.'" That's his email. That's his reference to Trump, and that's what the media wants everybody to think is all he said in these emails; he didn't say anything else about Hillary or anything of the sort.
But it's a halfway decent treasure trove here of indications in the minds of these ruling class types about what's important to them. And notice, notice how front and center money is. These are the people that try to convey they're above that. "Money? (stammering) No, no, no. That's a... That's a... That's a hoi polloi concern. I am above that! I -- I -- I don't need money for what I do! I -- I -- I'm not concerned with the money. I'm in this for the good of the students and the audience and I'm -- I'm in this for the good of the country. Ah, money? I couldn't care less about the money."
They care totally about the money just like everybody else does.
