Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gave the wrong date for the September 11 terrorist attacks during a campaign speech Monday.
"I wrote this out, and it's very close to my heart because I was down there and I watched our police and our firemen down on 7/11, down at the World Trade Center right after it came down," Trump said in Buffalo.
"And I saw the greatest people I've ever seen in action. I saw the bravest people I've ever seen, including the construction workers, including every person down there."
Trump went on to discuss New York values, a phrase coined by his rival Texas Sen. Ted Cruz a few months ago. Cruz was referring to liberal politics, but Trump and his supporters spun it as a slam on the state.
"That's what New York values is about," Trump said Monday. "So I wrote out a little something and I'd like to talk about the New York values that we all know so well. The values that make us love this state. Despite its problems, we love this state. We know it's gonna come back. If I'm president, it's gonna come back to fast you won't even believe it. You watch."
In February, Trump referenced a set of 28 classified pages of a government report on 9/11, pages that are held under a tight lid. Reports say they contain information that ties Saudi Arabia to the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
"In all fairness, we went after Iraq — they did not knock down the World Trade Center, OK? It wasn't the Iraqis that knocked down the World Trade Center," Trump said.
"You will find out who really knocked down the World Trade Center, because they have papers there that are very secret. You may find it's the Saudis, OK?"
