A new ad for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz focuses on the story of a father whose son was reportedly killed last year by an illegal immigrant.

The 30-second ad, titled "Grant," will air in Arizona, CNN reported.

The ad starts off showing childhood photos Steve Ronnebeck's son.

"My son, Grant, was killed working an overnight shift at his job by an illegal immigrant," Ronnebeck says in the ad. "He was out on a nice bond. He should have been deported."

Ronnebeck said his son's death was "completely preventable."

He said he trusts Cruz because the Texas senator believes in our "Constitution" and the "rule of law."

"It's time we put somebody in office who puts the American people first," he said.

Ronnebeck's son was reportedly shot by an illegal immigrant in 2015 while he was working an overnight shift at a convenience store in Mesa, Ariz., The Arizona Republic reported. A man handed Grant Ronnebeck change and asked for a pack of cigarettes. The man then shot him after he attempted to count the money.

The ad is part of a six-figure buy by Cruz in both Arizona and Utah, according to CNN.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls in Arizona, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump leads by 13 points over Cruz, 34 percent to 21 percent.

Both states will hold their Republican presidential primaries on Tuesday.

Why hasn't the border been secured for the last 20 years?

Maybe you have just been blinded by the entertainer.

As President, I will stop illegal immigration, build a wall that works, triple border security, and put in place the surveillance and biometric tracking to secure the border. Border security is national security. We need to stop Obama’s amnesty and enforce the rule of law. And we need to reform legal immigration to protect American workers.

Ted has been to the right of Donny on this issue from the beginning. You are aware that Donny is still advocating for touch back amnesty which is to the left of Rubio?

The GOP has had decades to secure the borders. They are all talk.

I have nothing against Ted Cruz. At least he's smart enough to imitate Trump and get away with it. Unlike Rubio who fell flat doing Trump.

No, my only problem with Cruz is that he's not as likable as his supporters think he is. In fact, smarmy comes to mind for a lot of folks. And that plays a significant role in a candidates success. Obama was enormously likable, even as his policies played a minor part in his election.

It seems the difference here is Obama was a huge unknown. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is completely known. He has a 35 year public record. Newspaper and magazine stories, TV interviews, he's been the subject of editorials, his TV show had a 10-year run. He has buildings all over the world emblazoned with Trump. He's been a pop-culture icon and author of business and motivational books. People have a connection with him.

Some people may not like him but they can't deny Donald Trump brings the kind and numbers of voters to the GOP that they'll need to beat the Democrats in November. Luckily, he's already proven he does that across the ideological and demographic spectrum. Ta-da!

Enough with the imitate Trump lies.  Ted Cruz has a record of being against illegal immigration.  And it goes beyond the few month Trump has claimed to be a Republican.

No, I don't want Hillary anywhere near the White House. I'll support the Republican candidate whoever it may be. Hopefully it will be someone who can kick the GOP in the ass and get them to do the job they were elected to do.

I'm not a sore loser like so many here, who if the don't get their way, will take their toys and go home.

Exactly. And some of those sore losers are on the rules committee of the RNC! I never heard such outrageous statements from an RNC official about a Republican front runner!

They are even talking about a third-party! Some in the freaking main republican party have talked about running a third-party! Can you believe that?
