Islamic militants on Wednesday released a photo they claimed was a bomb that brought down a Russian passenger jet last month.

The photo shows a Schweppes Gold soda can, labeled as an improvised explosive device, next to what appears to be a detonator.

The image was published in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria's (ISIS) English-language magazine Dabiq.

Russian officials said Tuesday that a bomb with up to 2.2 pounds of TNT brought down the jet Oct. 31, describing it as "definitely" a terrorist act.

U.S. and British officials have strongly suggested that it was a bomb that brought down the plane, killing all 224 people on board.

ISIS had previously claimed responsibility for downing the plane.

ISIS Posts Photo Of Bomb That Brought Down Russian Plane

But while it has the usual content full of pro-Jihad propaganda, some 66 pages of it, as well as numerous images to commemorate the martyrs for the ISIS cause, what was most stunning about this edition was ISIS admission of how it brought down the Russian airplane above Egypt's Sinai peninsula, which as even Russia admitted yesterday, was the result of an ISIS bomb.

On page 3, we find the following two photos: one shows what Dabiq alleges are passports belonging to the "dead crusaders obtained by mujahidin"...

... and more troubling, is the image of the IED used to bring down the Russian airliner: a bomb concealed in a can of Gold beer.

This corroborates what Russia FSB chief Aleksandr Bortnikov said: "traces of a foreign-made explosive substance" have been found.  "During the flight, a homemade device with the power of 1.5 kilograms of TNT was detonated."

And something else which is perhaps just as surprising: in the foreword to its magazine, ISIS says it had originally planned to bring down a plane "belonging to a nation in the American-led alliance" but changed its mind to blow up the Russian plane instead.

Quote

On “30 September 2015,” after years of supporting the Nusayr in the war against the Muslims of Sham, Russia decided to participate directly with its own air force in the war. It was a rash decision of arrogance from Russia, as if it held that its wars against the Muslims of al-Qawqz were not enough offence. And so after having discovered a way to compromise the security at the Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport and resolving to bring down a plane belonging to a nation in the American-led Western coalition against the Islamic State, the target was changed to a Russian plane. A bomb was smuggled onto the airplane, leading to the deaths of 219 Russians and 5 other crusaders only a month after Russia’s thoughtless decision.

Frightening to think how easy it is to get something like this on to the plane using checked luggage. I would assume bomb-sniffing dogs are used, but a baggage handler with ill intend can find a way to get that by-passed.

One rather remarkable fact of history is never mentioned, namely that just two bombs in 1945 brought then end to the Pacific Theater of WWII.

The Japanese war culture was every bit as fanatical and insane, as the jihadists.

Could it be that while the US or Europeans will not do that, Russia might? Would they??

Would it work??

It is an alternate method, for reaching their "hearts and minds." I wonder if there are any generals left, who can grasp that era in military history?

Russia has a very large population of Muslims, so Putin has to proceed with extreme caution lest he offend the large Russian-Muslim population.

Putin will do nothing more than what benefits himself and Russia.  Probably in that order.

Putin had a religious conversion from atheism to Christianity following two events that changed his life.

"Putin's religious values are rooted in Russian Orthodoxy and personal religious experiences, including his wife's car accident in 1993 and a life-threatening house fire in 1996.  Just before a diplomatic trip to Israel, his mother gave him a baptismal cross.  He said of the occasion, "I … put the cross around my neck.  I have never taken it off since."

"those of us who grew up in America being told that the godless communist atheists in Russia were our enemies, the idea that America might give up on God and Christianity while Russia embraces religion might once have been difficult to accept.  But by 2015, the everyday signs in America show a growing contempt for Christianity, under the first president whose very claims of being a Christian are questionable.  The exact opposite trend is happening for Russia and its leaders – a return to Christian roots.

Putin's hatred of radical Islam is genuine.

Actually, I believe this will be the climax of the long war (which will get a more lasting name at a later point in human history).

Two bombs.
Two cities.

It will be this event which demonstrates to islam that The West finally understands the nature of the struggle, and also that it has the will, the commitment, AND the intestinal fortitude to win.

This won't end the war. There will yet remain a "long way to go".
But if there is to be a turning point from which The West changes from a loser into a winner, this will be it.
