Elvis Presley tops UK album chart again, 40 years on

What a phenomenal entertainer. I was in a store just yesterday and noticed they were still selling Elvis memorabilia. His popularity is amazing.

"LONDON (Reuters) - Nearly 40 years after his death, Elvis Presley is back at the top of the British album charts with his 12th UK Number 1 - "If I Can Dream," a collection of Elvis classics featuring orchestral reworkings by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

This means Elvis now has more Number 1 albums in the UK than any other male solo artist, and puts him level with Madonna in second place for the most chart-topping LPs, behind the Beatles, who have 15, the Official Charts Company said on Friday.

Elvis claimed top spot with 79,000 chart sales, it added, giving him the second-fastest selling album of the year behind Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' "Chasing Yesterday."

FWIW  Britain loves American music more than Americans do.

They repopularized and broadened old authentic blues in the 60s, for instance when the Stones and others played the style. BB King and other people started touring with British groups, for instance.

People like Van Morrison were inspired by his father's American record collection. American performers first got recognized there, like Hendrix.

And they make simply great music on those islands, even today. The backup combos for Sade and  Amy Whitehouse are great. Adele and Mumford  & Sons are great.
