Huckabee blasts Obama's 'ignorantly inflammatory' speech
'It was a cop with a gun that stopped' Oregon shooter
Published: 13 hours ago

President Obama challenged Americans Thursday night to politicize yesterday’s massacre at at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee took him up on the offer.

The Republican presidential candidate blasted Obama on his official Facebook page Thursday night for immediate calls to pursue stricter gun-control laws. He continued the rhetorical barrage on CNN Friday morning.

“We hardly know any of the details about this horrific tragedy – What kind of gun was used? How did the shooter obtain it? What is the motive? Does the shooter have a history of mental illness? Was this an act of terror? With few facts, Obama is quick to admittedly politicize this tragedy to advance his liberal, anti-gun agenda. For this president to make a political pronouncement is at best premature and at worst ignorantly inflammatory,” Huckabee said Thursday on Facebook.

Nine people were killed and seven wounded at UCC, a gun-free zone, when Christopher Harper Mercer, 26, went on a rampage targeting Christians. Mercer died in an exchange of gunfire with officers who responded to 9-1-1 calls.

Paul Marshall, Lela Gilbert and Nina Shea have collaborated to create “Persecuted: The Global Assault on Christians,” which confirms that groups like Pew Research, Newsweek and The Economist also identify Christians as “the world’s most widely persecuted religious group.”

Obama addressed the nation from the White House Thursday evening with a speech focused primarily on the failure of Congress to pass new gun-control legislation.

“So we know there are ways to prevent [shootings]. And of course, what’s also routine is somebody somewhere will comment and say, ‘Obama will politicize this issue.’ Well this is something we should politicize,” Obama said, WND reported. “Right now I can imagine the press releases be cranked out. We need more guns, they’ll argue. Fewer gun-safety laws. Does anybody really believe that? There are scores of responsible gun owners in this country. They know this is not true. We know because of the polling that says the majority of Americans say we should be changing these laws.”

Huckabee demanded specifics from the president and his supporters on Friday during an appearance on CNN.

“I keep waiting for someone to tell me what new gun law can we pass that would have prevented this shooting, or Sandy Hook, or Aurora, [or] Charleston – just tell me what gun law that is, [because] I have yet to hear somebody tell me what that is,” Huckabee said, the Washington Times reported. “Let’s ask this question: what stopped that shooter in Oregon yesterday? What stopped him? He was continuing to shoot – what stopped him? It was a police officer with what? A conversation? A reading from a book? It was a cop with a gun that stopped him.”

The former Arkansas governor then noted UCC did not even arm its sole security guard.

“So when I hear people say ‘fewer guns’ – fewer guns in the hands of crazy people, I agree, but maybe a gun in the hand of a police officer, in a security officer or in a well-trained citizen who can intervene and at least save some of the lives, if not all of them,” Huckabee said, the newspaper reported.

Investigators have fond 13 weapons connected to Mercer over the past 24 hours.

Celinez Nunez of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives, speaking from Roseburg, Oregon, said all of Mercer’s weapons were obtained legally, CNN reported Friday.
