Lawmakers Unanimously Vote to Ban Possession of High-Capacity Magazines

I have always said that there is more to the gun-control movement than meets the eye.  There had to be, as they continually present laws that have nothing to do with the problem.  Most of the people killed by firearms are accidental deaths.  These are best reduced through gun safety programs rather than restrictions.  The remaining deaths are criminal acts.  This would then argue that those who are committing these murders will do so with or without legally obtained firearms.  But once again, L.A. proves my theory correct.

Fox reports:

Los Angeles lawmakers reportedly voted unanimously on Tuesday to ban the possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines.

The decision by the Los Angeles City Council thrusts the spotlight on the city in the midst of a heated national gun debate. Juliet Leftwich, legal director for the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence told the Los Angeles Times that such magazines have been "the common threat" in nearly all mass shootings that have plagued the U.S. Supports of the ban say it's a small step to stop the bloodshed in the city.

Yes, it will be such a small step the effects will not even be measurable.  As close by, neighboring cities continue to allow such magazines; the short drive to them to obtain the larger capacity will hardly be a deterrent.   And even if those cities follow suit, the short trip across the border into Mexico would probably be even less of a deterrent.

Yet, the more important issue is the fact that it is a violation of the Second Amendment.

The National Rifle Association and other gun rights group argue the law violates the Second Amendment and have threatened to sue the city.

Councilman Paul Krekorian said defiantly before a cheering crowd in front of City Hall: "If the NRA wants to sue us over this, bring it on."

Any restriction of gun ownership is not allowed by our Bill of Rights.

The Second Amendment reads:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

This points us to the fact that we should have the same ability to defend ourselves from enemies, foreign and domestic, as they have to malign this citizenry.  If we are not allowed the same rights as those who could do us the most harm, then we are doomed to slavery.  This, again, points to the fact that this has little to do with gun violence and more to do with liberty.

Fox Continues:

"I don't think it's going to have any effect on gun violence," said Chad Cheung, the director of CalGuns Shooting Sports Association, at Tuesday's hearing. Cheung argued that the ruling wouldn't matter because residents of neighboring cities such as Burbank and Glendale could still possess the magazines.

The only reason that they would think that this was going to change anything is that they have fallen and bumped their heads.  But, it seems more likely that there is a nefarious intent involved.

Emotional impulsiveness in lieu of reasoned response to a problem is a species of "magical thinking", by which people frequently achieve nothing, and often succeed only in making things worse. Yet it persists because it makes liberals feel noble and often superior to those who maddeningly persist in making factual arguments.

With respect to the use of firearms in the commission of crime, our preternaturally emotive Progressives respond not by seeking to discourage or suppress criminal behavior, but instead by attributing human intentionality to inert objects, as though the mere existence of weapons sufficed to explain or even promote human criminality.

Such magical thinking also, and not coincidentally relieves liberals of the responsibility of having to (logically) blame people for whom they irrationally experience the emotions of guilt and pity, and allows them, defensively, to blame the victims instead.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I don't see anything in the article that defines 'high capacity'. Are we talking 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 rounds or anything more than 1.

I'm sure the Crips, the Bloods, MS-13,  18th Street Gang, Sureños, and others will be lining up to turn in their 10+ magazines.

Exactly.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Once-Ler's graphic is appropriate.

As America divides, there are the emerging "New Slave States" vs. the "traditional freedom states".

At least for now, folks have a choice as to where they wish to live.

I said, "for now" ...
