McCain Wants Review of What Led Hostages to be Killed by Drone

Sen. John McCain says he still supports the use of military drones, but wants a review of why faulty intelligence allowed two hostages to be killed in a drone strike in January.

"The whole process has to be revisited and reviewed. But to do away with the drone program, of course would deprive us of an enormously important tool that we use to take out the leaders of these terrorist organizations," the Arizona Republican who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Thursday on CNN's "Newsroom."

President Barack Obama on Thursday apologized to the families and said he took "full responsibility" for the hit on an al-Qaida compound that killed American hostage Warren Weinstein and Italian hostage Giovanni Lo Porto. The compound was in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

That strike killed several al-Qaida leaders, including American Ahmed Farouq, the White House said. A separate strike also killed American al-Qaida leader Adam Gadahn.

Though McCain thinks a review should be conducted to see what happened and try to find ways to prevent it from happening again, he admitted that some might come to the conclusion that the dangers are a necessary risk.

"But it seems to me that since we have so much capability we're going to find out that it could have been avoided," he said.

Rep. Duncan Hunter: 'Warren Weinstein Did Not Have to Die'

Thursday, 23 Apr 2015 08:01 PM

By Greg Richter

American hostage Warren Weinstein, whom the White House on Thursday announced had been killed in a U.S. drone attack on an al-Qaida facility in January, should have been released as part of the Bowe Bergdahl trade, said Rep. Duncan Hunter.

"Warren Weinstein did not have to die," the California Republican and Marine Corps veteran said on Thursday.

He blamed Weinstein's continued captivity on interagency infighting between the CIA and FBI.

"The FBI was the lead organization in the recovery mission, but, as I have said repeatedly, the FBI is incapable of leading these efforts in hostile areas," Hunter said. "And the CIA’s focus in this case and others is not on the successful recovery of Americans held captive."

The incident points out that the only government organization seriously developing options to recover Weinstein and others in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region was within the Pentagon, "led by war hero Jason Amerine," Hunter said.

Amerine and his team were developing plans to recover all Western hostages in the area, not just Bergdahl, Hunter said.

"Their planning did not include a 5 for 1 trade, as occurred, but rather a 1 for 7 exchange that included Weinstein," the congressman said. "Due to infighting and disagreements among lead organizations, Amerine and his team struggled to get attention beyond the walls of the Pentagon and were ultimately sidelined."

Until the American public realizes that all Obama cares about is the politics of a situation, we will continue to see stuff like this.

And the politics of Obama is "What is going to make me look good."  He will sacrifice lives and careers to get what he wants.

A truly reprehensible human being.

Prayers for the hostages because Obama is incompetent and arrogant, but good to see Ahmed Farouq and Adam Gadahn burn like brilliant trash.  Step up and show yourselves...we will make more drones. :patriot:
