Yet more tarnish has befallen the Silver name.Indicted former Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver’s son-in-law was arrested and charged Monday with running a $7 million Ponzi scam.Marcello Trebitsch, 37, of Brooklyn, who is married to Silver’s daughter, Michelle Trebitsch, was busted on federal wire fraud and securities charges.Trebitsch’s arrest comes less than three months after Silver was indicted on federal corruption charges stemming from his alleged solicitation of $4 million in bribes and kickbacks.Like Silver, Trebitsch is being prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.“Investing in securities entails certain risks, but should not include the risk of being defrauded by one’s investment manager,” Bharara said of Trebitsch in a statement Monday night.Investigators charged the Ponzi scheme dates to 2009 and that Trebitsch promised investors up to a whopping 16% annual return on their investments
