Iran Removed From Terror Threat Report As Obama Negotiates Nuclear Deal

Posted By Neil Munro On 12:43 PM 03/16/2015

President Barack Obama’s appointees have airbrushed Iran out of the terror section of the 2015 annual report on national security threats, just as he tries to negotiate a nuclear weapons deal with Iran’s theocratic leaders.

The 2015 “Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community” excludes Iran and its network of jihadi groups who are motivated by Islam’s Shia sect, from the report’s terror section.

Instead, the assessment focuses entirely jihadis motivated by the Sunni sect of Islam, including those in al-Qaida and ISIS, sometimes known as the Islamic State.

“Sunni violent extremists are gaining momentum and the number of Sunni violent extremist groups, members, and safe havens is greater than at any other point in history,” the report admits.

That’s a big shift from 2014, when Iran’s network of jihadis — chiefly, the Hezbollah army in Lebanon — got their own subsection.

“Iran and Hizballah – Outside of the Syrian theater, Iran and Lebanese Hizballah continue to directly threaten the interests of US allies. Hizballah has increased its global terrorist activity in recent years to a level that we have not seen since the 1990s,” said the 2014 report.

Non-government experts say Iran has funded and directed many terror attacks, including hundreds of attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq, on Jews in Israel and even a huge bomb against a Jewish site in Argentina.

During 2014, Iran and Hezbollah stepped up their roles in the Syrian and Iraqi wars, where they’re fighting the Syria-based Sunni jihad groups.

The airbrushed 2015 report was released as GOP leaders step up their rhetorical opposition to Obama’s push for a strategic deal with Iraq. Meanwhile, Obama is trying to minimize the Senate’s role in crafting and approving the new strategic alliance.

According to various reports, the potential 10-year deal is aimed at preventing Iran from being able to build a nuclear weapon in exchange for loosened sanctions, but its framework has yet to address the future of Iran’s nuclear centrifuges and enriched uranium, or the country’s development of long-range missiles.

Iran’s nuclear program is already fueling a nuclear arms race in the region, partly because the rival Sunni powers — such as Saudi Arabia — fear that Iran would use nuclear weapons to threaten its neighbors.

Israel’s leaders fear a nuclear arms race would eventually allow jihadi groups to grab and use nuclear weapons against Jews.

The threat of an Iranian nuclear force began getting much more publicity in the United States when U.S. congressional leaders invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress.

Last year’s report highlighted Iran’s use of the Hezbollah army to defend Syria’s dictator, Bashar Assad, and to threaten the region’s only democracy, Israel.

“Iran and Hizballah are committed to defending the Asad regime. … Iran and Hizballah view the Asad regime as a key partner in the ‘axis of resistance’ against Israel and are prepared to take major risks to preserve the regime as well as their critical transshipment routes,” said the 2014 report.

All that has been airbrushed from the 2015 report, which was quietly sent to the Hill in late February.

There’s only one mention of Hezbollah in the 2015 report, which describes Hezbollah as defending Lebanon from Sunni jihadis, despite Hezbollah’s large armory of rockets, its past attacks on Israel and its repeated threats to destroy Israel.

“Sunni extremists are trying to establish networks in Lebanon and have increased attacks against Lebanese army and Hizballah positions along the Lebanese-Syrian border. Lebanon potentially faces a protracted conflict in northern and eastern parts of the country from extremist groups seeking to seize Lebanese territory, supplies, and hostages.”

Iran gets 41 mentions in the 2014 assessment — nearly all of them negative — and 40 mentions in the 2015 assessment, which talks about terrorism, cyber threats, nuclear development and other national security areas.

Outside the terrorism section, most mentions of Iran in the 2015 report are negative.

For example, the 2015 report blames Iran for cyber attacks in the United States. “Iranian actors have been implicated in the 2012-13 [backer] attacks against US financial institutions and in the February 2014 cyber attack on the Las Vegas Sands casino company.”

“Iran’s intelligence and security services continue to view the United States as a primary threat and have stated publicly that they monitor and counter US activities in the region,” the report says.

The 2015 report says Iran is preparing to build nuclear weapons, but adds that its leaders have not decided to actually build the weapons, despite the huge economic cost they’ve already endured by building up Iran’s nuclear facilities in the face of international opposition and painful economic sanctions.

“We continue to assess that Iran’s overarching strategic goals of enhancing its security, prestige, and regional influence have led it to pursue capabilities to meet its civilian goals and give it the ability to build missile-deliverable nuclear weapons. … We do not know whether Iran will eventually decide to build nuclear weapons,” says the report.

But Iran can build nukes, the report warns. ”We also continue to assess that Iran does not face any insurmountable technical barriers to producing a nuclear weapon, making Iran’s political will the central issue. … We judge that Tehran would choose ballistic missiles as its preferred method of delivering nuclear weapons, if it builds them,” the report says.

But the 2015 report praises Obama’s strategic deal-making with Iran. ”Iranian implementation of the [November 2013] Joint Plan of Action (JPOA) has at least temporarily inhibited further progress in its uranium enrichment and plutonium production capabilities and effectively eliminated Iran’s stockpile of 20 percent enriched uranium,” the report says.

“The agreement has also enhanced the transparency of Iran’s nuclear activities, mainly through improved International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) access and earlier warning of any effort to make material for nuclear weapons using its safeguarded facilities,” the report says.

If you read the entire article, it does not support the headline. And the article does not identify which departments' appointees 'airbrushed' either.

The article says: "Iran gets 41 mentions in the 2014 assessment — nearly all of them negative — and 40 mentions in the 2015 assessment, which talks about terrorism, cyber threats, nuclear development and other national security areas.

Outside the terrorism section, most mentions of Iran in the 2015 report are negative."

That is horribly biased.

Why give Iran negative mentions with regard to terrorism? They are highly effective and professional at sponsoring it.

Obama Removes Iran from Terror List, Praises it for Fighting Terrorism

Posted By Daniel Greenfield On March 16, 2015 @ 5:12 pm In The Point | 29 Comments

The mask is coming off faster than ever.

You know the country responsible for killing hundreds of marines, which provided sanctuary to Al Qaeda and whose terrorist proxies helped give Al Qaeda the skills to carry out 9/11?

They’re no longer terrorists. Sure their terrorist groups currently control parts of Lebanon and Yemen, but they’re not terrorists. Because if Iran was a state sponsor of terror, then Obama letting them have the bomb might look bad. This way it’s fine.

An annual report delivered recently to the US Senate by James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, removed Iran and Hezbollah from its list of terrorism threats, after years in which they featured in similar reports

In describing Iran’s regional role, the report noted the Islamic Republic’s “intentions to dampen sectarianism, build responsive partners, and deescalate tensions with Saudi Arabia,” but cautioned that “Iranian leaders—particularly within the security services—are pursuing policies with negative secondary consequences for regional stability and potentially for Iran.

The only time the report mentions Hezbollah is when describing it as a victim of attacks.

Lebanon faces growing threats from terrorist groups, including the al-Nusrah Front and ISIL. Sunni extremists are trying to establish networks in Lebanon and have increased attacks against Lebanese army and Hizballah positions along the Lebanese-Syrian border. Lebanon potentially faces a protracted conflict in northern and eastern parts of the country from extremist groups seeking to seize Lebanese territory, supplies, and hostages.

That clarifies that Obama no longer considers Hezbollah an enemy (not that he ever did). Instead it’s an ally that is classed together with Lebanon, rather than a threat to it.

Here’s what Obama chose to turn his back on.

“The worst part for me is that nobody remembers,” Mark Nevells said last year on the anniversary of the Hezbollah bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut.

A Marine had thrown his body in front of the truck to try stop the vehicle and afterward for five days, Nevells and other Marines had dug through the rubble for the bodies of the men they had served with.

One of the first Marines on the scene heard voices coming from underneath the rubble. “Get us out. Don’t leave us.”

The Marines lost more people that day than at any time since Iwo Jima and the number of Americans murdered that day by a terrorist group was a record that would stand until September 11.

And more of it still.

The Marines who died in the bombing were lucky. Another Marine did not die as quickly.

Colonel William R. Higgins was captured by Hezbollah, the terrorist group acting as Iran’s hand in Lebanon, and tortured for months until his body was dumped near a mosque.

An autopsy report found that he had been starved and had suffered multiple lethal injuries that could have caused his death.  The skin on his face had been partially removed along with his tongue and he had also been castrated.

Fred Hof, a diplomat who had been a friend of the murdered man, said, “I am one of a small handful of Americans who knows the exact manner of Rich’s death. If I were to describe it to you now – which I will not – I can guarantee that a significant number of people in this room would become physically ill.”

Like Higgins, William Francis Buckley, the CIA station chief, was also captured and tortured for months. On video tapes released by his Hezbollah captors, he was incoherent and his mind had been broken by the horrors inflicted on his ravaged body and his soul.

“They had done more than ruin his body,” CIA Director William Casey said. “His eyes made it clear his mind had been played with. It was horrific, medieval and barbarous”

Robert Stethem, a Navy diver, was brutally murdered when Hezbollah terrorists took over TWA flight 847. The Iranian-backed terrorists, one of whom was Imad Mughniyah, beat and kicked him to death.

“They were jumping in the air and landing full force on his body. He must have had all his ribs broken,” Uli Derickson, the stewardess, described. “I was sitting only 15 feet away. I couldn’t listen to it. I put my fingers in my ears. I will never forget. I could still hear. They put the mike up to his face so his screams could be heard by the outside world.”

Obama wants you to believe that the 47 Senators who stood up to him on Iran are traitors. The truth is he’s the traitor.

The closer Obama gets to the end of his term, the more blatant and bold he is becoming in showing which side he is really on. Clearly he supports the PLO and Hamas over Israel. And he obviously has some deep love for Iran.

Obama is siding with the enemies of America and the West, and he is doing it with glee. He takes joy in sticking his finger in the eye of America and the 'colonialists', as he calls them. Whenever anyone challenges his obviously traitorous policies, he laughs and responds with a big FU! You can't touch me. I'M BLACK! I can do any damn thing I want. And, of course, he is not even a full Black person. He is a mulatto, and he has no 'slave' heritage, but who cares about details. I guess he is 'Black enough' to get away with anything in American PC society.

The things he is doing now are extremely dangerous, to America and the World in general. I know he thinks he is being 'cute' and 'radical', and all that hippy Leftist crap by siding with our enemies, but it is more than that, whether he knows it or not. By funding and supporting Iran, he is putting very many countries in more danger even than America. He is affecting the whole world in a very negative way with his new push toward supporting Islamism. And the world knows this. That is why Obama is deeply unpopular on a global scale, especially in Muslim countries. They, more than any of us, know the danger he is putting all of us in. The only single positive outcome from Obama's radical policies is that it is causing many Muslim countries to look to Israel and the rest of the West for partnership and protection against America and the terrorist nations and groups Obama supports.

Iran and the terrorists are not going to reward Obama for being weak, as he expects them to. They would kill him the same way they would kill any one of us, even though he is too stupid to realize that. In fact, he would be the first one they would kill, if they could. But, he remains undeterred. His drive to exact his 'revenge' on the West for all their, as he perceives them, sins against Muslim nations, is stronger than his inclination for self preservation and common sense. He does not care.

Obama would sell his soul to Satan himself, as long as Satan promised to punish the West. Even if 'the West' includes himself and his own family. In fact, in a way, that is exactly what he is doing with Iran.

He does not care. His fanatical quest for 'revenge' is stronger than anything else, and nothing is going to slow him down. Rev. Wright, Obama's personal preacher, summed it up very well, "It is not 'God Bless America! It is God damn America!!'"

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

I had the same impression of his recent performance at the Gridiron Club dinner. Just poking us in the eye and laughing. Yeah, I'm destroying your country. Pretty funny.

And with whom should we be most angry? Obama, and his lawless minions? Or, with those cowards in the Senate whom we elected to stop Obama?

Impeachment seems appropriate at this point.

I'm out of anger. I figure the citizens of this country are somewhere between apathy and dependency.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over a loss of fiscal responsibility, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world's great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith,
From spiritual faith to great courage,
 From courage to liberty,
 From liberty to abundance,
 From abundance to selfishness,
 From selfishness to complacency,
 From complacency to apathy,
 From apathy to dependency,
From dependency back again to bondage."

Seems appropriate?

Why is it suddenly more "appropriate" now than months and months ago?

Impeachment has been an "appropriate" action ever since obama began ignoring the separation of powers and the Constitution.

Yet there are STILL folks in this forum who are going to reply to my post by saying, impeachment would "hurt the Republicans", regardless of whether it's "appropriate" or not!
