BY JUSTEN CHARTERS
As if murdering your father wasn’t terrible enough, the reason behind a disgruntled son’s choice is absolutely outrageous.
When thirty-year-old Thomas Gilbert Jr. received the news that his dad was decreasing his allowance by $200 and was going to stop paying the rent at his Chelsea (Manhattan, NYC) apartment — which runs about $1,500 to $7,500 per month — the son reacted in the worst way possible.
The New York Post explains what Gilbert did next:
The spoiled 30-year-old brat asked his mother to go get him a sandwich so she’d be out of the family’s tony Beekman Place apartment just before he pulled the trigger and executed his dad with a single bullet to the head, sources said.
“He was cutting his allowance. He had been giving him $2,400 a month for rent and $600 for spending money, and he was cutting that to $400 a month for spending money,” a source said about Thomas Gilbert Sr., founder of the Wainscott Capital hedge fund.
What’s even more vile, is what else the New York Daily News reported: Gilbert’s mother returned home to find her husband’s dead body on the floor, with the gun planted on his chest. Gilbert Jr. had attempted to make it appear as if his father had shot himself.
Perhaps thinking he’d orchestrated a perfect crime, Gilbert went back to the apartment his father was paying for him. Police eventually arrived in riot gear, breaking his door down.
Gilbert remains in police custody, but is refusing to talk to detectives about what took place.
