A number of passengers have been taken off a ferry by RAF helicopters in the North Sea, near the East Yorkshire coast, after a fire broke out on board.Squadron leader Dave Webster told Sky News at least four people suffering from smoke inhalation had been winched off the MS King Seaways ferry. The ship was about 30 miles east of Flamborough Head, he said, and he believed the fire had been contained. Some 946 passengers and 130 crew were on board the ferry, he added.
Many people Stateside do not appreciate how much transportation depends upon these ferries not just in the UK but along the entire North Sea coastline and well inland on the Continent.
