There goes the excuse by Voter ID opponents that the small cost associated with getting an ID is an undue burden on the poor. This is happening all over Texas.
Gregg County commissioners approved of a plan Monday that will bring Department of Public Safety mobile Election Identification Card units to the county Friday and next Monday.
During a 10 a.m. meeting of the Commissioners’ Court, Gregg County Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy proposed the plan that will allow residents who do not have the proper photo identification to vote in the November election to get a free Election Identification Card.
“DPS is working very hard to meet the needs of the voters that do not have one of the required forms of ID; so they are bringing mobile stations around to many counties in the state and to go out into the community to meet the voters,” Nealy said.
