Pelosi reverses on border bill, plans vote on Senate version after GOP pressure
By Adam Shaw | Fox News
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi abruptly backed down Thursday from her push to include restrictions on immigration enforcement in a must-pass border funding bill, moving instead to bring a bipartisan Senate version for a vote following intense pressure from Republicans and moderates in her own party.
At stake is a critical $4.5 billion bill to combat the humanitarian crisis at the southern border, which lawmakers want to pass before Congress leaves for the July 4 recess. The Senate already approved its bill 84-8 on Wednesday, after rejecting an earlier House version.
But until Thursday afternoon, the left-wing faction of the Democratic caucus was still driving an effort to insert restrictions on enforcement back into the Senate bill before they would consider it. With the clock ticking, Pelosi reversed course.

The Senate bill isn't all that, and IMHO is a disaster. As far as I can tell, there is nothing in it for border security or pushing back ILLEGALS. What about the deportation issue?? Or is that another shoe that we're still waiting for to drop?

Used to be, as a taxpayer, every time the swamp critters in DC were trying to pass a bill....the saying was ... don't bend over. Now, they don't even wait for us to bend over. They just have their way with us while standing up. Color me officially FTFU.

If this is a cave by Pelosi I'm glad she did it. And cheers to McConnell for crafting a bill Pelosi could cave on.

Ehhh.... if it's a bill Pelosi would cave on... then it's not a good bill for America. That's the rule of thumb I go by.

Pelosi realized she can’t keep mewling about the children while continuing to veto funding for border facilities. Looks bad.

It's a little late for her to start worrying about her party "looking bad". That ship has sailed, sunk and is now rotting at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Nah... there's something in the bill she liked. I'd bet money on it.

It got 84 votes in the Senate. How bad could it be?

Just slightly less bad than a "bipartisan" Senate bill that receives 90+ votes!

It's a red letter day! I agree 100%.

Thanks for the info. To reiterate, only 1% of the $4.5 BILLION is going for border SECURITY. Pitiful! What about the deportations?? Trump has given Pelosi 2 weeks ... so can we expect the deportations to start??

No.
I keep reminding people not to confuse this bill ($4.5 billion for the illegal aliens) with the "imaginary" bill that he gave Pelosi 2 weeks to pass. That is the one that he had been saying for weeks will take "15 minutes" to solve.... to close up all of the loopholes...
So the passage of this bill has nothing to do with the deportation effort....
We will wait to see if that happens sometime in the second week of July....
Obviously, the deportations should have been happening regularly since January 2017.....

Anyone want to protest this bill and tell Trump not to sign it?

Good Luck with that.
He's going to sign it and try to spin and hype it as a big "win."

You think he was serious about that?

Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people.......
....long before they get to our Southern Border. Guatemala is getting ready to sign a Safe-Third Agreement. The only ones who won’t do anything are the Democrats in Congress. They must vote to get rid of the loopholes, and fix asylum! If so, Border Crisis will end quickly!

At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!

I want to give the Democrats every last chance to quickly negotiate simple changes to Asylum and Loopholes. This will fix the Southern Border, together with the help that Mexico is now giving us. Probably won’t happen, but worth a try. Two weeks and big Deportation begins!

Bipartisan Humanitarian Aid Bill for the Southern Border just passed. A great job done by all! Now we must work to get rid of the Loopholes and fix Asylum. Thank you also to Mexico for the work being done on helping with Illegal Immigration - a very big difference!
3:22 PM - 27 Jun 2019
I don't think fixes to Loopholes and Asylum are coming. I think the Congress on vacation now.
