When I was growing up, this Christian UHF channel was showing one of those anti-Commie films but actually pulled it because it got a little too far out, a bit violent. That was the old channel 44 I think.

Back in those days, Communism was a threat; did the US go overboard in paranoia? Yes but it was a grave danger nonetheless.

There is even an interesting book out there on just the Red Scare affecting the VOA and Radio Free Europe; I'd have to find it again.
Any red scare memories? I do remember even comic books were out on the dangers.
Islamaphobia is fairly well founded; in some ways, I see parallels but certainly not with the same kind of creative license. Propaganda is not needed, the extremists do it to the belief system.
Back then, I think there was a high degree of hysteria but it could happen again.
