First the obvious disclaimer. Maher was there to hawk a book, and not give any indication of changing ideological teams.  Quite a price to land him for the show.  GG allowed him an entire block to allow him to discuss.  Still,  this is the biggest high profile guest he's landed.

I think the intent was showing that there is a lot of agreement, if we forego and tone down the rhetoric.  Show did try to focus on agreeing, rather than red meat that Gutfeld throws to the crowd.  Common ground. seemed the theme.

Mahner did go into his Trump insurrectionist rant. He also made a point that it was important to differentiate Liberalism and "Woke".  He seems to think that the two really need to be decoupled.

Over all, minimal friction.   And I for one, have always thought that Maher was 75% reasonable, and a TV political pundit that is a rare rational Liberal.  Disagree with him 95% of the time,  still, he often provides an interesting take to the counter POV.

Agree with your take on him.

Study finds MASS MIGRATION is a bigger problem than climate change
05/15/2024 / By Ava Grace

Mass migration is a bigger problem than climate change, according to a global study whose results were recently released.

The Copenhagen-based Alliance of Democracies Foundation and marketing insights firm Latana elaborated on this finding in the Democracy Perception Index (DPI) 2024 study. It involved 62,953 respondents from 53 countries – representing 75 percent of the world’s population. The study was conducted between Feb. 20 and April 15.

It found that in European nations, many believe tackling mass migration is far more important than tackling “climate change.” Only 14 percent of respondents to the DPI 2024 study have placed climate among the top three priorities for government.

“Since 2022, more and more Europeans say that their government should prioritize ‘reducing immigration,’ and fewer say that their government should ‘fight climate change,’ the report observes. “Now in 2024, for the first time, reducing immigration is a greater priority for most Europeans than fighting climate change.”

Offshore wind is gearing up to bulldoze the ocean
05/08/2024 / By News Editors

The Biden Administration has recently produced a wave of plans and regulatory actions aimed at building a monstrous amount of destructive offshore wind. No environmental impact assessment is included.

(Article by David Wojick republished from CFact.org)

Time scales range from tomorrow to 2050. Here is a quick look at some of it, starting with the Grand Plan.

“Pathways to Commercial Liftoff: Offshore Wind” is the grandiose title of the Energy Department’s version of Biden’s vision. Their basic idea is that having successfully traversed the unexpected cost crisis, offshore wind is ready to take off.

BYD Electric Car Showroom Catches Fire In China, Tenth Blaze Since 2021
by Sebastien Bell  60 mins ago in Electric Vehicles, News Reading Time: 3 mins read

A massive fire broke out overnight at a BYD showroom on May 16, leaving little more than the bare framing of the building, the skeletons of a handful of vehicles, and soot. [emphasis, links added]

Fortunately, no one was killed in the blaze.

Videos shared online show large clouds of smoke billowing in the skies above the showroom, giving the entire surrounding area an orange hue as the flames reflected off the rising plumes. In the background, loud bangs and pops can be heard.

The fire started at 12:32 a.m. in Qingkou in Fujian Province, and seven fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, report HK01.

The Climate Cost Conspiracy: The Overstated Economic Damages From Global Warming
by Dr. Matthew Wielicki  37 mins ago

The non-peer-reviewed recent paper claiming that global temperature increases drastically harm economic activity is a prime example of the climate industrial complex inflating costs. [emphasis, links added]

The assertion that a 1°C rise in global temperature could lower world GDP by 12% at its peak starkly contrasts with empirical data suggesting a reduction of merely 1-3%.

This article critically examines the methodology and conclusions of the paper, arguing that the authors are overstating the economic damages while ignoring their own clear evidence that warmer temperatures have recently boosted global GDP.

The authors rely on a time-series local projection approach to estimate the impact of global temperature shocks on GDP. This method is fraught with issues.

Climate Change Reporters Call the End of Fossil Fuel – in the Middle of Record Demand
18 hours ago Eric Worrall

Essay by Eric Worrall

“… Even though we might be seeing record high prices at the moment, and therefore record high revenue for governments, the overall trend is going to be downwards. …”

The fingerprints of climate change are all over a budget navigating an economy in transition

Modelling of natural disasters in different climate scenarios could see government spending increase exponentially.

Preparing for the end of the fossil fuel era

While it’s full of figures and tables, the budget also is an opportunity for the government to draw attention to things it thinks are important. And this year it highlighted an unexpected boon from record fossil fuel profits.

How El Nino La Nina And The Sun Drive Climate Change!
10 hours ago Guest Blogger

By Jim Steele

The short answer, based on peer-reviewed science is, small increases in solar insolation increase the tropical trade winds. Stronger trade winds push the Pacific Ocean into a La Nina-like state that reduces cloud cover in the eastern Pacific and eastern Atlantic. Less cloud cover during La Nina-like conditions increase heat flux into the oceans, where the greatest heat flux is now observed. That greater flux warms the oceans and via ocean currents warms the world as it ventilates, as it does now. In contrast El Nino-like conditions increase cloud cover over the eastern Pacific and reduces heat flux into the oceans which cools the world as it did during the Little Ice Age.

In the American southwest, natural La Nina-like conditions induce dry climates and reduce vegetation. Panel “A” from Jimenez-Moreno (2021) using proxy evidence from precipitation-sensitive Pinyon Pines in southwest, illustrates 1200 years of climate change and the oscillating effects of EL Nino and La Nina. When solar irradiance was low during the solar minimums, reduced trade winds created EL Nino-like conditions that enabled greater precipitation across the southwest, and greater growth of Pinyon Pines during the Little Ice Age (LIA) from 1400 to 1850 AD.

Previously from 800 to 1400 AD, solar maximums increased the trade winds and caused the American southwest to suffer megadroughts due to dominance of La Nina-like conditions.

Panel “B” represents the standard contrast between El Nino and La Nino events. During La Nina-like conditions, strong trade winds blow warm water to the west and cause upwelling of cool subsurface water which reduces cloud cover. Reduced cloud cover amplifies solar heating of the oceans. Thus, Southwest megadroughts and warmer temperatures of the Medieval Warm Period strongly correlate with La Nina-like conditions.

Ad Hominem Backfire in the Energy/Climate Debate
6 hours ago Guest Blogger

By Robert Bradley Jr.

“Get off your high horse, all of us are ‘pro climate’, you just have a different view on how to achieve that. Mr. Bradley interacts with anyone who challenges his statements. As far as your charge that he, “declare a position”? He does so every day. Catch up….” Mark Rohrbacher to Thomas Ortman (below)

Social media exchanges between free market and government energy/climate proponents are an excellent way to understand the arguments, politics, and motivations of all involved. Cancel culture not, may the best ideas win. Here is a LinkedIn exchange of note, where I (and others) rebut a familiar ad hominem. In this case, one Thomas Ortman just … disappeared.

The exchange occurred with a post by Gavin Mooney, self-described “energy transition optimist.”. “Batteries have taken a huge leap forward in California this spring, soaking up solar during the day and discharging it when it’s needed in the evening” he wrote. I responded:

Climate Change / Electric Van Sales In Decline

Electric Van Sales In Decline
MAY 20, 2024

By Paul Homewood

https://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/lcv-registrations/

Whilst EV car sales remain sluggish, the market for electric vans is even worse. The government’s ZEV mandate demands that 10% of van sales are electric this year, and this figure rises rapidly in the next few years.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pathway-for-zero-emission-vehicle-transition-by-2035-becomes-law

However sales of the useless things gave actually fallen this year, and only account for 4.9% of the market.

Fleetworld sum up the problem:

The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) said several major van makers now insist that a proportion of all vehicle orders must be electric vans in order to reflect the percentage of ZEV vehicles they are now legally required to sell – creating a dilemma for fleets that can’t go electric yet.

AFP chair Paul Hollick explained: “It’s quickly becoming a widespread practice that when a fleet wants to order a quantity of vans, manufacturers are asserting that a percentage is electric – often 10% to reflect the 2024 ZEV mandate.
