Poll: Gillum holds 4-point lead over DeSantis in Florida governor's race
By Brett Samuels - 10/23/18 04:01 PM EDT

Democrat Andrew Gillum holds a 4-point lead against Ron DeSantis (R) in the Florida gubernatorial race with two weeks left until Election Day, a poll published Tuesday showed.

A Florida Atlantic University (FAU) poll showed that likely voters in Florida favor Gillum 41 percent to 37 percent. Roughly 18 percent of those surveyed are still undecided in the race.

The two candidates are dead even among women and men who are likely to vote, according to the survey.

Gillum gains an advantage among voters ages 18-34, 46 percent of whom support the Democrat. Twenty-four percent of those younger voters back DeSantis.

The poll surveyed 704 likely Florida voters from Oct. 18-21. The margin of error is 3.6 percentage points.

I don't buy this. Gillum has increased trouble from the FBI of late. Maybe DeSoto is a bigger loser.

Florida's Democratic candidate for governor got 'Hamilton' ticket from undercover FBI agents

Tallahassee mayor and Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum received a ticket to the Broadway show "Hamilton" in 2016 from undercover FBI agents examining city corruption, according to a new report, even though Gillum's campaign said he got the ticket from a family member.

According to a stash of text messages between Gillum and former lobbyist Adam Corey that were released by Corey’s lawyer Chris Kise on Tuesday, Corey informed Gillum the ticket was from “Mike Miller.” Miller was an alias used by an FBI agent pretending to be a developer examining city corruption, but was really investigating corruption in Tallahassee for the FBI, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

"Mike Miller and the crew have tickets for us for Hamilton tonight at 8 p.m.," Corey, who has known Gillum since college, said in a text message to Gillum on Aug. 10, 2016.

"Awesome news about Hamilton," Gillum said.

The reports appears to be at odds with what Gillum’s campaign has said about how Gillum obtained the tickets. In a statement last month, Gillum’s campaign claimed that he had received his ticket from his brother Marcus.

"After the trip, Mayor Gillum learned Marcus Gillum had obtained that ticket in a swap with Adam Corey for a concert ticket," the campaign said.

I could find no demographics with the poll. Another poll that did had Gillum at a +1, and their demos looked more like a mid-term model.

All the polls that do it that way show a more favorable picture to the GOP by around five points.

And right here is why the large numbers of undecideds are going to break for DeSoto.
