Smart move by Fox, and it makes the whole thing at least a little bit more fair.  If Harris declines because it is Fox, it reinforces the idea that the other two debates are biased in favor of Biden and the Dems

World News / Re: Ukraine 4

Or way too early, for those of us who don't want NATO boots in Ukraine, ever.
Seems to me Ukraine has learned a lot more about modern warfare using drones, large and small, in a real world situation than The UN could teach them anyway...unless it was for those pretty blue helmets to show how to draw sniper fire :pondering:

As I recall, in the 70's, the hysteria and promoted climate predictions were for an ice age. We are all gonna freeze to death.  8888crybaby I'm sure there was plenty of money made then as there has been today.

That was a little over 50 years ago. Not that long for a complete turn around...is it?

Fox News invites Trump, Biden campaigns to vice presidential debate
'We hereby accept the Fox Vice Presidential Debate,' Trump responded Friday afternoon
By Brooke Singman Fox News
Published May 17, 2024 4:15pm EDT

Fox News Media has invited the Trump campaign and the Biden campaign to participate in a vice presidential debate before the 2024 election.

In a letter to the campaigns, Fox News Media said it requested the opportunity to host a vice presidential debate, and said it would be available to do so on July 23, August 13, or dates "following both nomination conventions."

The proposed vice presidential debate would be hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, who Fox News Media President Jay Wallace said "are obvious choices as the faces of our political coverage."

"In addition, FOX News Media has reached out to Virginia State University as a possible location, since it was selected by the CPD as the first historically Black College or University to host a Presidential debate," the letter said.

"Despite not having a Democratic debate in 2016/2020, FOX News was able to secure town halls with Democratic candidates such as: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro, Amy Klobuchar and Kirsten Gillibrand.
In recognition of FOX News Media's capabilities and reputation, we cordially extend an invitation to all concerned parties to discuss our proposal," the letter states.

Former President Trump accepted the invitation Friday afternoon.

"On behalf of the future Vice President of the United States, who I have not yet chosen, we hereby accept the Fox Vice Presidential Debate, hopefully at Virginia State University, the first Historically Black College or University to host a Debate - Date to be determined," Trump posted on his Truth Social. "I urge Vice President Kamala Harris to agree to this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Mike Johnson Teams with Ousted Speaker and Conservative Nemesis John Boehner for High-Dollar Fundraiser

Bradley Jaye 17 May 2024

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is teaming up with John Boehner, the conservative nemesis ousted from the Speaker’s office for cozying up to Democrats, for an Ohio fundraiser on May 30.

Boehner, who now works for Squire Patton Boggs, one of the largest lobbying firms in the world, is hosting and speaking at the event for Grow the Majority. General attendees must fork over $1,500, with $10,000 required for a photo and a whopping $25,000 for a VIP Roundtable.

Punchbowl News, which reported the fundraiser, noted “if you’ve listened to Speaker Mike Johnson recently, there is some John Boehner influence poking through.”

Boehner, who was infamously chummy with Barack Obama, was ousted in October 2015 amid a conservative mutiny over Boehner ushering through Democrat priorities and violating the Hastert Rule to pass spending legislation over the opposition of a majority of his own party. Roughly two dozen Republican members, led by then-Rep. Mark Meadows, indicated they would vote against Boehner in a “vacate the chair” resolution, which led to Boehner resigning.

Like Boehner, Johnson himself has violated the rule, most recently with a bill to send tens of billions of American taxpayer dollars to Ukraine.

Yet Johnson has arguably gone even further than Boehner in appeasing Democrats — and in a much briefer tenure.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has described Johnson’s “three betrayals,” specifically, Johnson funding Biden’s spending policies — at even higher spending levels than the omnibus bill last passed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) — forcing through a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) extension without a requirement to require warrants before spying on Americans, and his foreign aid package with Ukraine money.

Johnson’s actions even won him the support of 163 Democrats earlier in May after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) forced a vote to vacate the chair — a level of support that even Democrat-friendly Boehner lacked during his tenure.

Donald Trump Heads to Blue Minnesota in Hopes of Flipping the State

Hannah Knudsen 17 May 2024

Former President Donald Trump is appearing in blue Minnesota on Friday, delivering the keynote address at the Minnesota Republican Party’s Lincoln Reagan Dinner as all eyes are on traditionally blue strongholds that the former president hopes to flip in November.

Trump has a busy day on Friday and is headed to Minnesota after attending his youngest son Barron Trump’s high school graduation in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier in the day.

In early May, the Republican Party of Minnesota announced Trump as the headliner for the 2024 Lincoln Reagan Dinner. At the time, Minnesota Trump Campaign Chair and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) said he was excited to “officially kick off our 2024 campaign” at the event.

“Joe Biden’s failed policies are showing Minnesotans each day that President Trump is the only choice to lead our country forward,” he wrote, hoping for a win in November.

Years ago, we had a nurse manager that was giving me my year-end evaluation and  she confided in me that she prefers to work around men versus women because women fight and complain

My firm's female office manager said the same thing.   There is something about women always competing against each other, even their friends.  Guys will much more readily accept a pecking order if one exists without it gnawing at them every day.

Joe Biden, Kamala Harris Support No Jail Time for Pot Usage, Despite Harris Jailing Almost 2,000 People for Marijuana Offenses

Elizabeth Weibel 17 May 2024

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris stated that people should not be jailed for using or possessing marijuana, despite Harris having a record of overseeing almost 2,000 convictions for marijuana-related offenses.

The statements from Biden and Harris come as the Department of Justice took steps on Thursday to reclassify marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III drug.

Currently, marijuana is listed as a Schedule I drug along with heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and methylenedioxymethamphetamine, otherwise known as ecstasy, according to the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) website.

“No one should go to jail for smoking weed,” Harris wrote in a post on X on Thursday. “We have pardoned tens of thousands of people with federal convictions for simple marijuana possession.”
