Has Garth Brooks Abandoned His Base?
Jan 20, 2021
RUSH: This is James in Battle Creek, Michigan. Hello, sir.
CALLER: Hello. Mega dittos, Rush, and much prayer to you.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: Thank you for taking my call. Just an observation and a comment on unity and who the real unifiers are. Garth Brooks said that, you know, he sang at the inauguration, then he said he sang for unity. And so far I haven’t seen any calls to boycott him or to cancel him, much like you would if it was gonna be a Trump inauguration. Your thoughts.
RUSH: Are you asking me where is the anger at Garth Brooks for participating in this?
CALLER: Well, the fact is I don’t think you will see it like you would have seen it out of the left, had this been a Trump inauguration.
RUSH: Well, it’s early. It’s early. Who we talking about? People may not even know yet that Garth Brooks performed, and they may not know who he is after they hear that he did perform. But I think even if there’s a move on Garth Brooks, the media won’t cover it. That’s the thing that you have understand about this. The media is not gonna be in any way similar to the way they covered news when Trump was the president. So Garth Brooks is gonna end up being praised. He’s gonna get great, great accolades here, for crossing over, for leaving the deplorables, for telling the deplorables that he wants no part of them. No, he’s gonna be a big hero today, if anything else.
CALLER: Yes. And I just love how the cancel culture only seems to work one way.
RUSH: Of course it does. I mean, there is no cancel culture of the left. It doesn’t exist. Unless somebody on the left engages in what we would consider traitorous behavior. But Garth Brooks, he’s not being a traitor. He’s a hero. He’s a Republican, ostensibly, and he’s going against what people in his own party would express as a desire. Anyway, I’m glad you called.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: You know, I uttered a quotable remark not long ago. You don’t turn on your base. It’s also a quote that’s made famous by Victor Davis Hanson. You don’t turn on your base. And I uttered that in telling you a story about my impression of what happened to Fox, that a lot of Fox viewers thought with the call of Arizona on election night, that that constituted a slap in the face of the base. Because it changed everything.
That call changed everything. It allowed vote counts to stop. It loud all kinds of things above and beyond the norms to stop. And so Garth Brooks — I mean, he’s a known Republican — has Garth Brooks abandoned his base? Will his base consider that he betrayed them? I don’t know. Time will tell. But he might have.
-
Yes. Years ago.
-
He single-handedly ruined Country Music.

@mystery-ak
????
Garth Brooks is a life-long leftie,just like Dolly Parton. Being country music stars,they just don't discuss politics much in public because they know it could be the kiss of death with country music fans.
-
He single-handedly ruined Country Music.
@dfwgator
I gotta disagree on that one. His politics suck,but he is one of the best singers and song writers to ever hit country music.
-
I saw where Garth performed at the JoBama Ignaug.
Man, He really does have friends in low places.
-
May Garth's future career resemble that of the
Dixie Chicks.

@Wingnut
He even wrote a song about it,but I am not so sure Manchelle and his girlfriend would have that much fun in a cowboy bar that wasn't on Rodeo Drive in Hollywood,where "cowboy" mean a WHOLE nuther thing.

@mountaineer
I am disappointed in seeing you write that. The man keeps his politics out of his music and it is a VERY rare event for him to even speak about it in public. I disagree with his politics,but he has the same right to his opinions as the rest of us.
Same with Dolly Parton,who is also a undercover lefties,and I SUSPECT lesbian. She is not rubbing everybody's noses in it,so it's really none of our business,and her music stands on it's own.
After all,it ain't like they are using their star status and their music to influence and recruit young people.

Glad George Strait hasn't muddied the political waters at least.

@catfish1957
Seems like country singers mostly have the good sense to keep their mouths shut about their politics and their personal lives.

So, the question is.... has Garth Brooks abandoned "his Republican base". What base?
And since when is betraying the "base" ..... ie the voters that bought into someone NOT being a DemocRat suck-up...something new? Bush did it. Romney did it. McCain did it. And most recently, Mitch da Bitch did it. It's what they do, a after all. Get used to it.
And let's not forget... that once upon a time.... Trump sucked up to the rats, as well.

Of course he has that right. No argument from me on that point. He also had the choice not to participate in the fraud that was the Biden inauguration. His involvement diminishes my opinion of him.

While it might not have been true before.... considering that the election was stolen by the ChiComs and their DemocRat puppets.... my opinion of him now....is that he's a sell-out. Another one on a growing list.

The Lebron James of country music.

The Lebron James of country music.
I particularly liked his song that was featured at the end of Frequency....but that one song doesn't make up for this.

I'm a bluegrass guy. Since Flatt & Scruggs in 1964.
I don't think I've ever listened to a Garth Brooks song, wouldn't know his voice if I heard it.
Same for that youngish gal who's made a fortune with "country" music -- Swift, is it...?
-
This is nothing new... Country music stars tend to be liberal - hence the coined saw 'Shutup and sing'...
Country folks are tolerant to a point... Till they open their mouth wide, preaching from the stage, whereupon country folks hit 'Oh hell no!' and comes then the fall from grace... ala Dixie Chicks.
I don't thing Garth Brooks went anywhere near that far.

He's not finished....

Gay city bois who pretend to like country? Garth isn't abandoning his base, he's playing to it!
-
He's not finished....
:laugh: no, I suppose he ain't...

When he starts wearing tennis shoes and has a daughter go total Ho, he's finished.

@XenaLee
I would almost be willing to bet,and I don't gamble,that Brooks is a life-long Dim and has never even considered voting for any other ticket.
You can't be a sell-out if you were there at birth.
I do get your point that you don't like his politics,though. I don't either,and it's the reason why I refuse to buy his music or go to his concerts.

Garth does what the late Tom Petty called "Bad Rock with a fiddle".
