California Gets Ready for Rolling Blackouts Tuesday Night Amid Heat Wave
By Cameron Arcand | Sep 06, 2022 6:15 PM ET
The California Independent System Operator issued a level two emergency alert for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday evening, and they are encouraging residents to conserve energy as much as possible to prevent rolling blackouts.
“The ISO declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 2 for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight, which signals to participants to bid more energy into the market, and allows the ISO to tap into emergency demand response programs that provide financial incentives for reducing energy use,” the organization said in a statement.
“The ISO is expected to declare an EEA 3 around 5:30 p.m., one step away from ordering rotating power outages,” they added.
California’s grid is going to be under an unprecedented amount of pressure tonight, as the demand is expected to be a “historic” 52,000 megawatts, according to the statement. This is due to the ongoing heat wave throughout the state, in which temperatures hit triple digits across the state over Labor Day weekend.

Coming to California...
Ain't Communism grand, comrade?

When I was very young, my family lived in southern California and I remember the temperature hitting 115 degrees for days on end. We didn't have air conditioning, and yet somehow we survived and didn't lose our electric power. Granted, there were fewer demands on the power system back then, but still ...

But in 13 years they think the same grid will power all new motor vehicles sold in the state.
Can we detach California from the rest of the western electrical grid so they don't bring other states down with their foolishness? Or, perhaps (at least until Wicker v. Filburn gets overturned and Fedzilla put back in the shackles of the Constitution as originally framed), invalidate stupid California laws that harm the rest of the country with counter-vailing Federal legislation on the basis that they influence interstate commerce.

Rolling Blackouts started today.
I love a good story where people think they will never see the unintended consequences of their actions.

I'm sure there are rolling blackouts, but not for me so far in Huntington Beach, CA. One thing I really miss about living in Anaheim was that the city owned it's own wells and power generation so those utilities were much more stable and cheaper.

rollin' rollin' rollin'
though green dreams are swollen
keep those blackouts rollin', rawhide
through rain wind and weather
hell bent for leather
wishin' my ev was revived
all the things I'm missin'
lights, a/c and kissin'
are waitin' at the end of my ride...

That’s because they’re not impacted by the consequences of their decisions
