Title: Do the Right Thing: Get Rid of Trump
Post by: Oceander on October 20, 2016, 04:07:25 pm
It is beyond belief that the GOP would have as its nominee a man who has refused to unconditionally accept one of the core fundamentals that made America great: the peaceful transfer of political power.   By that one statement last night Trump proved that he has no intention of making America great again, he only intends to aggrandize his own ego at the expense of the entire country.

If the GOP does not get rid of Trump now it will be stained for years and years with his anti-American legacy.  Losing the election for lack of a nominee is better than losing the election because you have an anti-American nominee; the one certainty is that the election is lost.

To that end, I urge everyone here who cares about this country, about its traditions, about its moral fiber, to contact national and local GOP leaders to demand that the GOP formally remove Trump as the party's nominee.  You should also contact all of your republican representatives and demand that they denounce Trump and put pressure on the GOP to do the right thing and formally remove Trump as the party's nominee.

This is the GOP's one last chance to show that it is a legitimate political organization that puts country before personality.

Please do the right thing.

How? Is this even legal at this point?

Next time, have a smaller field of candidates with actually some qualifications.

If they lost to Trump, what makes you think they would have beaten Hillary with the press on her side?

The nominee is still a matter of internal party affairs.  If ballots cannot be changed, that is no different than having Trump as a write-in candidate.  What matters is this: is the GOP going to remain committed to a man who refuses to accept the peaceful transfer of power?  That tradition is part of what makes America great and Trumps rejection puts the lie to his claim that he wants to make America great again.

Trump is a fool. And a great many things worse than that. But anti-American?

Has the idiot who wrote this ever voted for abortion candidates and talks about moral fibre? Just a hate hit piece.

Piss off fascist.  Have you made plans for Kristallnacht yet; have you set a date for our own little reichstag fire?

You support a man who wishes to undermine America, not make it great again.

Do people not keep up with the news?

The Democratic primaries were rigged against Sanders. Wasserman Schultz resigned.

The Democrats have just been exposed for provoking problems at Trump rallies and 2 democratic officials resigned.

There are voter fraud investigations in Texas, Indiana, Colorado and who knows where else.

Ahhh, so the peaceful transfer of power has nothing to do with what makes America great?   I think the Founders would to a man disagree with you.

Are you a democrat?  Then go to DU and plead your case there.  The GOP has no control over how the DNC comports itself, it only has control over how it comports itself.  The GOP cannot force the DNC to respect America, but it can make sure it respects America.

It is a weak, weak excuse to say that the GOP should be free to renounce the peaceful transfer of power because it thinks the DNC has done so.

Two wrongs do not make a right.  That's supposed to be taught to us in kindergarten.  It's shocking how many of you seem to need a refresher course in kindergarten.

Because they were better people.  They lost because of a plurality of primary voters, probably including democrats, who voted for Trump out of their own hatred and fear, to spite the party and to spite the country.  Well, you got your way and you've spited both party and country by foisting on us a demagogue who would destroy what makes America great.

While you may mean well with these points - they are futile. The GOP had their chance with a contested convention. But that didn't happen.

Besides. Trump will lose by double digit percentages and the GOP will look for another loser in four more years.

The GOP getting rid of Trump isn't going to happen.  They had their opportunity months ago and that ship has already sailed. Instead of backing someone actually worth a damn, but who threatened to shake up the corruption in Washington; they risked a Clinton presidency and that's exactly what they're going to get.

The election is lost, so what matters is whether the GOP is going to become the party that rejected a fundamental tenet of American constitutional values or not.

If you wish to remain allied with a demagogue, so be it; I do not and I hope that at least a few other Americans do not want to either.

If the election is lost already, then formally renouncing Trump will not make a difference on that score, so what matters is whether the GOP will stand up for a fundamental American principle or not.  Will you?

Trump was going to delegitimize the GOP nominee if he lost.  Election was rigged, I was robbed, etc.  Just look how he behaved prior to the Acela primaries.  The party let him get away with his shenanigans in the primary, so he's carrying his act to the general election.  For their cowardice they will pay dearly.

The Democratic primaries were rigged against Sanders.

That was so that half of Hillary voters could cross over and vote for Trump in the Republican primaries.

Right on, Oceander.   There was a boomlet of Republicans urging Trump to drop out after the PussyGate tape was released.   Then folks lost courage after Trump bloviated at the debate.

Ultimately, it's the GOP to blame for allowing this putz to be nominated and failing to force him to step down before he brings disaster down on us all.

All we can hope for how is Trump's complete and utter humiliation.   That's how we can save what's left of the good name of conservatism.

Please do the right thing

Actually, we are the ones who will pay dearly.  The Party already got what it wanted at the Convention - more power, thanks to Trump delegates. He is the best thing to happen to the Establishment since GHW Bush.

I am a firm believer that the Republican Party is doomed anyway, given current demographic trends, and that a new party will be needed to advance conservatism anew without the ever-increasing baggage the GOP has.

So, if the GOP does not reject Trump, let the people reject the GOP as it goes the way of the Federalists.

Forget it.  The best thing that can happen now is for Trump to be crushed and his supporters shown, in the strongest way possible, that Trump's repulsive personality and his dopey populism are anathema to America.

One problem is that the GOP message is so stale and boilerplate that they all blurred together. Remember Rubio doing his robot impression?

Can't get a unified message with 17 people trying to stand out from each other.

I have said it from the start, the conservatives within the GOP need to have their own conventions and field a unified candidate in the GOP primaries.

Blow it Frank.  The party nominated the POS, the party can unnominate the POS.  Or are you saying that political nominations are a one-way gate?   You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave?

The ballots are printed, it is too late to change the candidate, probably in any state by now. Even if Trump decides to go home and have a Taco Bowl every night and not campaign any more, I don't think the RNC could do anything about it.

Well then, the time is ripe to pull off that total destruction, deliberate loss scenario I've seen pedaled around here lately.
