Biden administration contemplating bringing Palestinian refugees into US: Report

The Biden administration is reportedly considering bringing certain Gazan refugees into the United States.

According to internal federal government documents obtained by CBS News, senior officials from federal agencies have considered plans to resettle some Palestinian refugees in the U.S. as the war between Israel and Hamas nears seven months. The plans discussed would only allow Palestinians with immediate family members who are American citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. to settle there.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House, State Department, and Department of Homeland Security for comment.

The Palestinian refugees would have to meet stringent qualifications, including eligibility, medical, and security screenings, then provide proof that they are fleeing due to persecution, such as of their nationality, religion, or political views, according to the report. Palestinians could opt to select the Israeli government as their persecutor, setting up an awkward situation for the allied U.S. government.

U.S. officials have reportedly weighed several proposals, one of which would be to use the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and coordinate directly with Egypt to resettle Palestinians who escaped to the country from Gaza. Such plans could prove difficult, however, as the Egyptian government has refused to accept a large number of refugees.

Refugees brought to the U.S. through the program would be granted housing assistance and a path to American citizenship.

Has anyone considered that Noem put the story in the book for the purpose of removing herself from consideration? Just saying…

Nah. I'd have to see the context, but her relating of the story as told second hand... it's just a matter of course on a farm or ranch - And she probably had no idea how foolish people would take the matter.

I sure didn't see it coming.

All the big railroads are unionized, per the Railway Labor Act of c.1926.

Short lines often aren't unionized. Some of the "regionals" are, others aren't.

I don't think the Florida East Coast is union -- they had a very bitter strike in the early 1960's that drove the unions out. They may still be "out" to this day.

In summary... if you're going to run the trains, you're probably gonna have to join the union.

Having said that, the operating jobs on the big RR's aren't like they once were. It used to be a much better place to work. Not so much any more. Truth is, the railroad unions have never been noted for "being on the strong side"...

A fellow I know works for BNSF and I think he would agree with your assessment of the current state of things for employees today.  We talked about the time off policies quite a bit.

:bkmk:  I'm not voting for Trump anyways, but Noem would have been a consideration for me to vote for him.

Syracuse University in upstate New York is organizing a “Lavender Graduation” for students who identify as “LGBTQIA,” which will take place on Sunday, April 28.

The school’s Lavender Graduation is a rebranding of what was formerly called the “Rainbow Banquet,” which the university held from 2003 to about 2019. The Syracuse LGBTQ Resource Center is organizing this year’s event.

“For the sixth consecutive year, we celebrate our queer and trans graduating students (undergraduate and graduate) and their accomplishments through our Lavender Graduation,” Syracuse’s website states. “All graduating undergraduate and graduate students whose lived experience, scholarship and/or leadership have contributed to a positive LGBTQ climate on campus are eligible to be Lavender Graduates.”

According to the same web page, Lavender Graduations typically “celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities at Syracuse University, [SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry] and the city of Syracuse, featuring a dinner, a graduating keynote speaker, graduating LGBTQIA+ student recognition and the presentation of Rainbow Recognition Awards.” ...

I am definitely looking forward to his exit.  He's done more destruction to the GOP than any other Senator, including McCain.

I will dance a jig...

In total, fast food prices have gone up in California by 10% since September, a larger increase than in any other state.

This is on top of previous price increases due to Bidenflation.
