Title: Lawmakers Disagree With Trump On Khashoggi Assessment
Post by: edpc on November 25, 2018, 06:27:37 pm
Several lawmakers on Sunday disagreed with President Donald Trump's assessment of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi's murder after the president doubted that Saudi Arabia was involved.

Trump last week released a statement that the U.S. will continue to work with Saudi Arabia, but also said he was unsure whether Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was responsible for Khashoggi's death.

Schiff disagreeing is not surprising.  Mike Lee has a bit more credibility.

I disagree with the president’s assessment. It’s inconsistent with the intelligence I’ve seen," Lee said on NBC's "Meet the Press," adding that he is unsure what information the president is relying on.

Why does Mike Lee give such a damn about one foreigner killed by SA?

What does Mr. Lee hope to gain by weakening the Crown Prince so publically?  What does he hope to gain by punishing the people of SA?

Oh, pity the poor Saudi Arabians.  Heads of state ordering the murder of journalists who publish no-so-nice stuff about them is so understandable.

Perhaps he's more interested in accuracy and as he states in the article, he's not particularly thrilled with supporting the Saudi conflict in Yemen.

It's not our job to police other governments, including SA.  And no one's ordering the "murder of journalists".  One guy.  One guy with some very suspect ties to jihadists.  One guy.

That this one guy was not even an American citizen making this uproar all the more stupid.  Just a strategic blunder ... and Russia's waiting in the wings to continue it's march across the Middle East.

If our lawmakers weren't jackasses, they'd be nothing.

Last sentence is on the mark.
As Lord Palmerston asserted "Great Nations have interests......."
and SA is our interest, as its an ally of Jordan and Israel.
As for Khashoggi, how many are aware that the family is Turkish?
Further, Adnan, his uncle, was an illicit arms dealer who supplied
both Osama bin Laden as well as the 9/11 hijackers???

The bigger issue here is Iran.

SA is the counter balance to Iran.

There is much at play here with life and death consequences far beyond Khashoggi.

I actually believe multidimensional chess is being played here, and I pray that Trump is capable of playing the game.

You’re forgetting about one of the players. Who’s been the instigator behind this issue? Turkey. They’re hoping to kneecap SA and emerge as the dominant regional power. They, like SA, are not true allies of the US.
