Biden was allegedly 'infuriated' by coverage of the withdrawal and called reporting 'overheated'

An intimate recount of the botched Afghanistan withdrawal described President Biden as a leader who sometimes appeared "icy" and "detached" in the face of human suffering, often stubbornly dismissing advice from foreign policy experts.

In a lengthy piece published in The Atlantic, Biden author Franklin Foer said that while the catastrophic operation showed the "shortcomings" of Biden's inner circle on "obvious display," those who participated in the withdrawal held a "desperate" need to explain their failings.

"Even in the thick of the crisis, as the details of a mass evacuation swallowed them, the members of Biden's inner circle could see that the legacy of the month would stalk them into the next election—and perhaps into their obituaries," Foer wrote.

The crisis also taxed the character and "managerial acumen" of Biden, who "revealed himself" throughout the many calamities that broke out in late August 2021.

"For a man long caricatured as a political weather vane, Biden exhibited determination, even stubbornness, despite furious criticism from the establishment figures whose approval he usually craved," Foer wrote. "For a man vaunted for his empathy, he could be detached, even icy, when confronted with the prospect of human suffering."

The portrait of Biden's character revealed that Biden held a "swaggering faith in himself" regarding foreign policy, often criticizing pundits and diplomats attending the Council on Foreign Relations and the Munich Security Conference.

Those close to the president said he described these establishment figures as "risk-averse, beholden to institutions" and "lazy in their thinking."

"You foreign-policy guys, you think this is all pretty complicated. But it's just like family dynamics," Biden said, according to one aide

In Biden's opinion, diplomacy was "akin to persuading a pain-in-the-ass uncle to stop drinking so much."

Sidelined and Self-Sabotaged: What The Last Politician Says About Kamala Harris
By Ben Jacobs

In November 2021, top Biden-administration officials gathered in the residence of the White House as the House was about to finally vote on the Build Back Better legislation that had been their objective since taking office. The only person missing was Vice-President Kamala Harris, who had already left the White House for the day. Eventually, a staffer caught wind of the gathering and she had to leave home and go back to work.

This revelation is one of many in Franklin Foer’s new book, The Last Politician: Inside Joe Biden’s White House and the Struggle for America’s Future, which is the result of two years of reporting inside the Biden administration. It is the deepest dive so far into a White House that has been far more guarded with the press and averse to leaks than past administrations. The book, which has been eagerly anticipated by officials in Washington, comes out on Tuesday.

The new book depicts Harris as having “rabbit ears” — acutely sensitive to “any hint of criticism” and “instantly aware” of the slightest bit of discontent. The result, Foer reports, is that Harris “lets the criticism guide her” and thus fails to rack up meaningful achievements.

Foer, an author and staff writer at The Atlantic, describes an administration where Harris is a comparatively minor player and seemingly manages to always put the wrong foot forward despite her best efforts. In one meeting with Republican senators intended to entice them to support bipartisan infrastructure legislation, she ended up chiding Roger Wicker of Mississippi about the state of the economy under Donald Trump, leading to Cabinet secretaries wanting to alternately pump their fists and cover their eyes. In another Oval Office meeting, this time with Joe Manchin shortly after Harris did a television interview with a West Virginia station that Manchin interpreted as a power play, she seemingly snubbed Manchin, not offering a handshake or acknowledgment as she left the room so the West Virginia senator could meet privately with Biden.

Harris’s lack of achievements was not the result of her not having the capacity for the job, according to the book.  ...

I don't know. I think her lack of achievements or worthwhile accomplishments is directly related to her intellectual incapacity.

Biden is a half step from a vegetable. He is not in the game, or even in the loop.

Our Govt has been taken over by an illegal and illegitimate bureaucratic coup most likely coordinated by Obama and his inner circle, and whoever they answer to.

Kamala Harris has 'rabbit ears' for any 'hint of criticism,' frustrating Biden White House: book
Foer wrote that Biden 'didn't need Harris in the same way Obama' needed him
 By Houston Keene Fox News
Published September 2, 2023 10:00am EDT

Vice President Kamala Harris has "rabbit ears" for criticism, which are a source of frustration in President Biden's West Wing, according to a new book.

According to journalist Franklin Foer's forthcoming book "The Last Politician," Harris' purported insecurity about how she was perceived led some colleagues to compare her to large-eared varmints.

"Harris possessed what one of her colleagues described as ‘rabbit ears,’" Foer wrote. "Whenever there was a hint of criticism of her — either in the West Wing or in the press — she seemed instantly aware of it."

"Rather than brushing it aside, she wanted to know who was speaking ill of her and what they were saying," Foer wrote, noting that when Harris "read a devastating story" on a news website "about her mismanagement of her team," the vice president "responded by briefly freezing out an aide whom she suspected of cooperating with reporters."

"She let the criticism guide her," he added. "Instead of diligently sticking to the Central America assignment, she seemed to accept the conventional wisdom about it. It was a futile gig, so she let it fall to the side, missing an opportunity to grind her way to a meaningful achievement."

In the same chapter, Foer wrote that while President Biden "treated [Harris] with impeccable respect, he simply didn't hand her the substantive role that he played in the Obama administration."

Foer wrote that Biden "had helped plug the gaps in Obama's resume" but that the president "didn't need Harris in the same way Obama needed Biden."

Biden has always been 'icy and detached'(translation doesn't give a damn) about other people and their suffering, the only one he cares about is himself and his personal loss of poor Beau, that's why he inserts his loss into every situation where he should be showing empathy for others.

What is a Sociopath?
People often confuse the terms sociopath and psychopath and use them interchangeably. They aren’t different in the clinical sense. Both terms refer to people who have antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). Those with ASPD have no regard for others’ rights or feelings, lack empathy and remorse for wrongdoings, and have the need to exploit and manipulate others for personal gain.

kamala is in a tough spot.

She probably has been told to NOT act as if she's running for VP again. Because if ol' white joe isn't running, neither will she for her current position.

Yet, even knowing that ol'  joe is out in 2024, she can't campaign on her own for president, because that would spill the beans on the as-yet-undisclosed decision.

Best thing for her is to keep out of sight.
Or.. be kept out of sight...

Book claims Biden ‘exploded’ as Afghanistan collapsed during his vacation: ‘Give me a break’
Franklin Foer's 'The Last Politician' details Biden's first 2 years, including chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal
By Andrew Murray , Thomas Phippen Fox News
Published September 3, 2023 4:57pm EDT

President Biden had an explosive reaction when he was told the president of Afghanistan had fled Kabul ahead of the Taliban's takeover of the city in 2021, according to a new book.

On Friday, Aug. 12, 2021, Biden left D.C. for what was expected to be a mid-August vacation to Camp David. Three days later, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told him the news that the then-president of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, had fled as the Taliban was poised to march into the capital.

"Biden exploded in frustration" when he heard the news and exclaimed, "Give me a break!" according to the forthcoming book "The Last Politician" by journalist Franklin Foer, which describes the inner workings at the White House during the calamitous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Biden wasn't the only one on vacation when Ghani escaped and it became clear to the world that the American withdrawal from Afghanistan would be far more chaotic than the administration expected.

The Biden White House had expected a gradual handover of responsibility to the Afghan government until Aug. 31, 2021, when the Taliban would begin to take an active role in governing the country. Instead, the Taliban rapidly took over territories as the U.S. moved out of various bases and were marching on Afghanistan before Ghani fled, fearing for his life.

However, in the first weeks of August 2021, multiple high-ranking White House officials left for vacation. Biden went to Camp David. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in the Hamptons. And then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki took her family to the beach.

Based on what?  The US abandoned Bagram on July 1 without even telling the Afghan commander that they were leaving.  Thinking that everything would be OK reflects a naivete that poses a threat to the lives of every American today.

‘Lunch-pail cornball’ Biden griped ‘professor’ Obama couldn’t say ‘f–k you properly’: book
By Caitlin Doornbos
Published Sep. 5, 2023, 1:47 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON — President Biden griped that his onetime boss Barack Obama wasn’t down-home enough — and couldn’t even say “F–k you!” properly, according to “The Last Politician’’ by well-connected author Franklin Foer.

While President Obama and his then-vice president were in sync on a lot of things, there was an underlying “tinge of class rivalry to their gibes,” according to the new biography.

Foer described the pair as “the lunch-pail cornball” (Biden) “and the effete professor culturally” (Obama) “chafing each other.

“Biden told a friend that Obama didn’t know how to say f–k you properly, with the right elongation of vowels and the necessary hardness of his consonants,” Foer writes. “It was how they must curse in the ivory tower.”

Biden, 80, was concerned that Obama, 62, wasn’t being tough enough, including in Afghanistan, listening too much to his advisers without pushing back, Foer says.

Biden had advised Obama to rebuke his generals’ advice on staying put in Afghanistan, whispering to his boss soon after the pair took over the White House, “These generals are trying to box in a new president” and, “Don’t let them jam you,” according to the book.
