Unlucky for Trump? 13 Republicans on Capitol Hill who could defect on impeachment
by David M. Drucker

President Trump is frantically trying to stave off Republican defections in an impeachment process being driven by Democrats that will be doomed to failure if the GOP holds firm.

The biggest danger for Trump is the Senate, where some Republicans concede the president acted improperly when he pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden. None back an impeachment inquiry. They see no evidence Trump tied U.S. military aid to Zelensky agreeing to target Biden. But Senate Republicans have declined to offer Trump a blanket defense against possible wrongdoing, suggesting they could be swayed.

“I’m trying to sort through this in the most reasonable way,” Sen. Roy Blunt told reporters after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the impeachment inquiry. The Missouri Republican sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which has launched its own investigation into Trump’s telephone call with Zelensky and the unusual government whistleblower complaint that brought it to light.

As the inquiry unfolds and more information surfaces, there are about a half-dozen senators to monitor for potential cracks in a Republican conference that has largely closed ranks behind Trump.

Rubio better not muck this up.

Did people know when he was 14 years old, he spent some time visiting a relative who was a cocaine cowboy type, maybe even living some in that house that likely did see criminal activity, drug storage there.  He claims not to know of anything going on.

Sasse is principled but I'd think when informed on everything, he should go with the team. The charges are a farce to me.

Now the rat media goes on and on as if, of course, not only is impeachment possible but its the logical outcome. Gotta condition the public and gin up the outrage.

Nowhere will you find any of these expert pundits say anything about what Trump actually did wrong - evidence, facts, etc - that deserves this drastic outcome. They’ve moved beyond that, quite deliberately.

I'm not hating Mike Lee or anything but he hasn't been real supportive of the president either. So, I'd see him as possibly one of them.

Unlike other senators, he and Romney don't have to pretend to be. Trump is not liked in Utah.

Correct.  He only beat Hillary Clinton by 18% (45% to 27%.  A squeaker).  The fact that favorite son McMuffin was running had a lot to do with it, surely all those McMuffin votes would have gone to Hillz and she would have beaten him.

First House Republican backs impeachment inquiry

Rep. Mark Amodei (R-Nev.) on Friday became the first House Republican to voice support for an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

In a conference call with reporters, Amodei made clear he wouldn’t vote to impeach Trump, but he also expressed concern over the president’s dealings with Ukraine, adding that the House should “put it through the process and see what happens.”

If job performance poll numbers meant anything, Trump would have been out 1/21/2017.  You might have noticed I detest polls.  But, if you want to use 2019 polls to say Trump will lose in 2020 in UT, that is your privilege.  I'm just an observer of the game.

I wonder if he approves of the process, as defined by speaker Nancy Pelosi AOC.

@mystery-ak

Uh,huh. Trying to play both sides against the middle never ends well. He is just going to get everybody mad at him,and will be lucky if he gets re-elected.

I see 12 in the article, 6 in the Senate (I think, never heard of one guy) and 6 in the House.  I guess that just leaves

LOL. No Republican would lose Utah.

Still, Romney and Lee need not fear Trump's cyberpimpslaps because he is not well regarded in Utah.

OK, I can see that, too.  Aren't they both LDS?  Those sinecures are safe for life, at least for Mittens.  There's much more to life in UT than Trump love/hate.

I counted 6 in the Senate, with a possible 7 with Blunt.   I am sure there are more than 7 in the House.

I have no idea, but if his team can pin down who exactly accessed the files, then tie it to the press, there will be heads rolling (and I don't mean just "sacked").

That doesn't narrow the field down much, most countries are shitholes.

Tom Cotton and some other person who were there, said they did not hear Trump make that remark.

To other things, I lose which thread it was but we were talking about if the Republicans have been supporting Trump, the House Republicans I heard were moving to censor Adam Schiff, as to whether that could occur, I don't think so. Gohmert also today, came out in support of the President.

There is a movement afoot to oust Schitt from the chairmanship, but it won't work.  I believe AZ Rep Andy Biggs is on that.

Mike Lee? You mean the one who put his name in for the Supreme Court? That one?

If Utah gave McMullin 21.5% of the vote, well, they can have him.
