A white Dallas police officer who shot and killed a black man in his apartment after she mistook it for her own has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, authorities said Sunday.

Officer Amber Guyger, 30, was booked into the Kaufman County Jail Sunday evening after Texas Rangers arrested her in connection with the shooting of 26-year-old Botham Jean.

Investigators say that Guyger, a four-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, shot Jean at around 10 p.m. Thursday, when she returned to her apartment building in the South Side Flats following her shift. She reported the shooting to dispatchers and she told officers who responded that she had mistaken Jean's apartment for her own....

UPDATE:

Dallas police officer Amber Guyger fired after fatally shooting neighbor Botham Jean
Fox News

Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was fired after an investigation determined she “engaged in adverse conduct when she was arrested for manslaughter” in the killing of her black neighbor, officials said.

Guyger was arrested on a manslaughter charge after she shot and killed Botham Jean earlier this month. An arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News said Botham allegedly ignored Guyger’s “verbal commands” before she opened fire.

This is a breaking news update. Check back for more.

That sounds fair and logical, since it was a tragic mistake on her part.  The Soros-funded racists will, of course, disagree.

I do not consider myself to be a Soros racist. But in this case my own personal feeling is that the guy was doing something, whatever music or parties or I can't imagine, that she did not like. She went up there in full uniform and armed to show him who's boss. Things got out of control, she freaked, and shot him.

I do believe that it was accidental. But it was an accident that she created.

Even though there's not even a hint of that having happened?

Any citizen, LEO or not, who walks into another person's house and kills them, accidental or not, at the very least, would be charged with negligent homicide or manslaughter. We wouldn't even be having a conversation if charges were justified if this wasn't a LEO. Sometimes blind loyalty to the blue makes us overlook that they are citizens subject to the same laws and bearing the same responsibility.

The sad part is if Botham had shot her in self-defense, facing an unlawful home invader, some probably wouldn't even hesitate calling for his head and saying he should have 'just complied'.

As to the last part, I don't think so.  I think Botham would have been cleared had that happened.

If you are a Cop with a loaded gun serving warrants to addresses all over town on horrible dregs of society, knowing all the while that you may be shot, or worse you may have to shoot and kill somebody, and you can't remember where you live?...I find that hard to believe. If she was at that apartment, she was there for a purpose.

We know 'what' she did. We just don't know 'why' she did it.

I'm not a cop, but my brother is.   But, I do agree with you that this is an incomplete story from what we know right now.

Pure speculation on your part.... based on nothing factual.  She screwed up and mistakenly shot someone she thought was a burglar in her apartment.  No racist motive involved.  She has been fired and faces prison time for manslaughter.  I would say that justice is served there.

I thought all women were to be believed regardless of what the evidence suggests.

In the 35 years my wife and I have been a couple, she and her six sisters have never been wrong on any-damn-thing. So yes, I agree with your comment entirely.

It's gotten to the point where I attend as few "family" gatherings as possible. Many of my BILs (those who married into the family) stay away, too. We've all been subjected to the "you just hate my family" rationale on many occasions.  :rolling:

Reminds me of a conversation we had about a decade ago, when we all were together at the family home in El Paso. For about a half hour, we were comparing notes, and laughing our heads off. One BIL sat virtually mute, and then it came out: "you guys get that, too?"

The instance she takes my side vs. her family will be an event of earth shattering proportions.  :rolling:

One of the challenges with this theory is the officer in her statement on what happened, didn't make this claim- which could have been an 'out' for her in many people's minds (she was investigating something, thought the suspect was a threat....). Instead, her statement was simply she was tired and went to the wrong apartment.

That's very sad.

@Sanguine , not at all. It's a reality I've learned to live with, and I love my in-laws. I came from a small family, with just a few cousins. On my wife's side of the family, I have over two dozen nieces and nephews. There's more drama going on than several soap operas.

Interesting that my 3 kids have figured it out, too, i.e. the "drama" engendered by the seven daughters of my MIL and FIL. They've been fighting over the position of matriarch since my MIL passed away a decade ago. We've learned to avoid the "family vacations" whenever possible, or at least being prepared for the drama that ensues when they're all together.

As my daughter (30+ YO) recently said, "they can dish it out, but they sure can't take it."   :rolling:
