It’s that time of year again. But with all the things that have happened during the year, are you looking forward to celebrating the holidays?
I’m conflicted. I don’t think next year could be as bad as this one-but then...who knows.
But no. Heck no. I don’t feel like it but I’m making my self do it to feel “normalâ€
-
Oh, I allowed guests to vote as well.
-
Tree's been up since day after T-giving, house decorated, menu written up, going to AZ to pick up our Trooper and spend a week together...
So yeah, the rest of the world can mope and find reasons not to, but we're finding "the pony in the room", grateful for what we have.

Not my bag... Last holiday for me was Sukkot... Still wavering on whether to do Hanukkah and Purim or not, so currently not... So 'the Holidays' are nonexistent for me.
-
Of course I feel like celebrating. Of course, I don't celebrate in a traditional manner anyway.
Yes this year has been a real goober and there is uncertainty about the future. But this won't be the first time or the last.
Happy and Merry to one and all!
-
Yes, we plan on it.
We have 3 kids with 2 each grandkids, 6 total.
Ages 9,8,7,6,2, and 1.
This year has been especially hard on the older 4.
we are doing what we can to make it special for them.

Excellent and DITTO! 'Cancel culture' wants us to give up and give in. NEVER. Baking my yearly Christmas stuff. Duck, red cabbage for son coming home. Tradition. Everything homemade.

Make it Stop, already, 2020.
I do, so much, want to get back to NORMAL, if possible

I just emailed your Wife @Wingnut and told her you were seeking Tittie shots from sluts on the NET outside your self proclaimed boundary of only seeking such on 'Tittie Tuesday', you're gonna be in deep $hit when you finally get Home.
-
My son is 20 months so... yes I do.

Record everything brother. I know you now this already but it's amazing how quickly time flies.

One huge advantage of modern technology. I think i have maybe 15 minutes of grainy VHS footage of my youth from the 80's. :D

I find it interesting that all here indicating they intend to have a happy time of it during the holidays ahead, ALL HAVE CHILDREN IN THEIR LIFE! Amazing how children brighten the darkest days.
I can remember coming home from work when my kids were little, and as I got out of the car in the driveway and headed to the front door of my house, my kids would come charging out of the house screaming Daddy, Daddy, and each grab a leg with nothing but pure joy of seeing me that day. It did not matter how dark things were at work, the light they brought to my being was pure joy.
The republic is going to hell, their future is in doubt, China intends to turn the USA into a territory, we have a traitor who committed endless numbers of felonies soon to become POTUS, and there is still room for happiness in all that.
God help us!

Without a doubt our children and grandchildren brighten our lives ... I absolutely fear for their future.
-
We will, the same way we have for years: A nice turkey and fixings, baking a ton of cookies and fudge (that we will eat all of them ourselves), and our traditional $1,000 gift exchange. I reach into the casino cash drawer, take out a $500 bundle and hand it to Mrs. Liberty with a "Merry Christmas, baby!" Then she hands it back with another "Merry Christmas Baby!" Then we take the bundle to blow at a Casino across the river.
Since I think of it as a gift to the Casino, I guess that's actually a $1,500 gift exchange!
Oh, then we feed the cats so much food they all puke.

@jafo
Yours is an interesting comment that resonated with me and I'm sure with others. Wife and me were discussing how the Holidays would roll once our son was "out of reach" so to speak and it becomes just the two of us. She wants to scale it back, but interestingly, before we had our son, we did the Holidays up pretty big. Deep down, we're both kids at heart, so I'm thinking it will continue, but maybe not as "big". There's just something about it that helps to create a reset for the coming year.

@Gefn
You know we are older and not able to drag big Christmas trees around the house.
And...thousands of people have died...and we can't go anywhere, stuck at home. Son and Amy are in Cardiff, Wales, no way they will be here.
So....went to Amazon and bought a beautiful 11 inch Lenox porcelain white cream color tree with colored small "lights" on it that light up when switch on bottom of tree is turned on (battery fed). I already had a small manger scene with doors attached that close it in, or open it up. Those two items are surrounded by gold small linked Christmas bells, and all this sits on red sparkling heavy duty paper.
I put them in the middle of the kitchen table. When I get sick and tired of the crap going on in the country, or just sick and tired, period, I go to the kitchen, get a drink, sit at the table and turn on the tree lights. This is what is real. Jesus Christ was born and with us still. Gefn, I wish you peace at this Christmas time.

December 21st is Winter Solstice, a holy day for Pagans. I didn't know Myst is a Pagan... :bolt:
-
I'm torn.
All the haranguing people not to celebrate the holidays while not shutting down the Christmas specials, the Christmas music, and everything else... it's just mixed signals. Like telling people they can't go to a football game then act shocked when they start gathering for house parties to watch it on TV.
But right now, I'm anhedonic. Most of the things that bring me joy are still gone with no promise they'll ever be back, and what remains doesn't give me joy anymore.
I'll observe Christmas out of holy obligation, but the merriness isn't there this year.
-
No change in Christmas Celebration from previous years for us. But our "local" family group is small.
-
I was thinking of making a gingerbread house, especially after watching Mary Berry make one on last night's British Baking Show.
In honor of 2020, though, perhaps it should be a gingerbread crack house:

Frohes Weihnachten.
Danke!

It's true, this has been a crazy year, like never before. I agree, I can't wait to put this year behind us, however, I also agree with SZonian, everyone else can mope, but I want to make the most of it and carry on. Also, we don't know what the future will hold, if all this will get better or worse, so I want to enjoy every moment I can with my family. I hope you all have a great end of the year and Merry Christmas to all.
Fingers crossed 2021 will be a better and easier year.

That is hysterical. Maybe it should be a gingerbread house under COVID quarantine.

I haven't felt like celebrating Christmas, or really any holiday for a long time at least since Bathhouse Barry started his destruction of America. It's just a general feeling of having the joy sucked out of life.
-
Always remember as stated before..the rest of us... have Festifus.
-
Hey gang,
Thanks for the nice welcome and holiday wished. I really appreciate it.
Merry Christmas and warm wishes to everyone here.
