Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) will remain on the ballot this November, a Republican source with knowledge of his decision tells TPM, a blow to the GOP’s hopes of holding onto a seat once viewed as safely Republican.
The move comes after a month of legal wrangling in which Collins, who’s under indictment for insider trading, sought to get off the ballot and give another Republican a chance to hold the seat for the party this fall.

Collins call to his son and other family and friends happened about a year ago June 22 2017. The Drug company publicly disclosed the info at the end of June and the stock dropped. The FBI investigated and likely made sure they had their facts straight. Gathering evidence and interviewing the bit players, family, and friends first before interviewing Collins on April 25th 2018. Then they tacked on the lying to the FBI charges. Collins was arrested Aug 8th 2018.

I have no problem with this timeline. The details of why the timing of the investigation took 10 months to complete will likely be brought up at trial since there is a dangerous demagogue in the White House. A demagogue who thinks he can muddy the waters and fool you into getting more enraged about the investigation than the crimes.
