The U.S. found five units of the Israel Defense Forces responsible "for individual incidents of gross violations of human rights," the State Department announced on Monday – though whether funding to the American ally could be cut over such abuses under the so-called "Leahy Laws" still hangs in the balance.

At a press briefing, State Department principal deputy spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters that the human rights violations happened all before the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas militants on southern Israel and none happened in Gaza. Four of the units have "effectively remediated," he said, while the U.S. continues "in consultations and engagements with the government of Israel" on the remaining unit.

"They have submitted additional information as it pertains to that unit. And we're continuing to have those conversations consistent with the memorandum of understanding that we have with the government of Israel that was entered into in 2021," he said. "When conclusions are made under actions that fall under the auspices of the Foreign Assistance Act, we are required to consult with officials from the government of Israel, and that is ongoing. We are engaging with them in a process, and we will make an ultimate decision when it comes to that unit when that process is complete."

He also noted that "the remediation standard is consistent and it is the same for all countries."

When pressed by a reporter, Patel admitted that the fifth unit is still eligible to receive U.S. arms at this stage.

"When we're talking about the Leahy Law, what we are talking about our unit and component restrictions, when they are found in violation, it is not have bearing on the broader security relationship that we may have with a country, especially a country like Israel, in which we have a longstanding security relationship. The provision of bulk assistance that's gone back many, many years," Patel added.

Harvard-Harris just released a poll that has Trump winning by 7 in a 4 way race, 3 head to head.

DeSantis requested the meeting.  Could he be trying to buy a prime time slot at the convention?

Yep, a troll. A foolish one at that.

Florida / Re: Trump and DeSantis meet privately in Florida

Not gonna happen, they would lose Florida's electoral college votes. I see this as simple politics with DeSantis positioning himself favorably with Trump voters for his next run.

The meeting was requested by DeSantis because he knows he's got some repair work ahead of him.  Ronny's more than likely maneuvering for a prime time slot at the convention ----- not quite sure what his bartering chip could be, even for this somewhat embarrassing request.

Robert De Niro Teams Up with MSNBC for Trump Trial Dramatic Readings

David Ng 29 Apr 2024

Actor Robert De Niro has teamed up with MSNBC to perform dramatic readings of the Trump trial in New York, reciting passages from New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s filings in the ongoing court case.

Robert De Niro has joined Glenn Close and Liam Neeson, who have also contributed their voices to dramatic readings for MSNBC’s “Prosecuting Donald Trump” podcast.

In a recent episode, De Niro recited passages from the so-called “statement of facts” filed by Bragg in his suit against Trump. De Niro recited claims about The National Enquirer and its parent company, AMI. Later, the Raging Bull actor read passages about alleged payments made to former porn star Stormy Daniels.

Hamas is no longer able to agree to any ceasefire, even if they want to. At this point, all the hostages are either dead, or out of the country, or are maimed beyond recovery. There are no more hostages to release. Hamas is out of ammo.

That's why they are releasing these paltry 'proof of life' videos with one or two remaining hostages (and who knows when those videos were made). That is all they have is one or two. Even if Hamas agreed to any deal, who in their right mind would trust them to keep their word. They laugh and brag about being the biggest liars on Earth who routinely lie to the infidels. They are proud of breaking treaties and killing innocents.

The only way this will end is not with any stupid 'deal', it will end when Hamas no longer exists.
