EXCLUSIVE: Secret Service agents tell how George H. W. Bush would raid the kitchen with them at 3 a.m. for milk and cookies and stay in DC Christmas Eve so they could spend it with their families - a far cry from haughty Hillary Clinton
President Bush was so considerate of the agents who protected him that he would stay in town on Christmas Eve so agents could spend it with their families
Despite warnings from his detail, Bush would insist on leaving the Oval Office through the door to the Rose Garden and greet tourists
Agents spotted what agent Glenn Smith calls a 'textbook' possible assassin as Bush was greeting onlookers at the fence
'The man had on a coat in the summer, he looked disheveled, and his eyes were darting in all directions,' Smith recalls
'We patted him down, and it turned out he had a nine-millimeter pistol on him and probably intended to use it on the president'
From then on, 'Bush would give us time to set up a secure zone at the fence,' Smith says
Hillary Clinton, who continues to be protected by the Secret Service, is so nasty, agents assigned to her detail consider it a form of punishment
Al Gore treated agents with disdain and told them he did not want to be bothered greeting them or seeing them

I'll repeat what I said on another thread here. One of my husband's good friends was in the Secret Service for decades, and protected many Presidents. We visited him in his home last summer and he had photos of GHW and Barbara on his office wall, and told us that they were the most gracious, kind, considerate people to live in the WH. They were exceptionally considerate of the staff and the SS (imagine the shock of having the Clintons follow!), and that Barbara made special efforts to include the SS wives.
According to those who were close enough to know, they were both very special people and America (a few obvious folks excepted) will miss them.

Normally I would lay out a snarky comment about BD. But not today. Not on a day when an old warrior says goodbye to a contemporary. Both know of shared sacrifice, both on the battle field and also in public service.

Oh my gosh ... it looks like it took all of his strength to salute. It is tragic that with age we are losing some wonderful people from an era with some political decorum that brought some decency and respect to the office of the president. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I do miss that decency, respect and kindness.

It is in sharp contrast how The Bush family has taken great care to assure that services being held to honor the life and legacy of former President George H.W. Bush does not become a political platform for anti-Trump swipes vs the McCain's family effort.

On Tuesday, the former first lady, 72, took members of her family, including new son-in-law Craig Coyne, on a tour of the White House, where she and husband George W. Bush lived during his two terms in office from 2001 to 2009. The visit took place after Melania Trump extended an invitation to the Bush family to see this year’s “American Treasuresâ€-themed holiday decorations.

I don't agree with all of the praise the Bush 41 domestic policies are getting - but it doesn't matter. I know the press will look at some of what happens today as subtle "digs" at President Trump - but that doesn't matter either. Not the point of today.

I believe that Carter is the last President to serve in WWII..
This came up the other day when the news said President Bush 41 was the last to serve. I looked up Carter's record. He was still in the Naval Academy during the war (graduated in 1946). President Bush 41 was the last to actually see action during the war.
But I really shouldn't quibble. During WWII just about everyone served in some way, whether in battle or in training, entertaining the troops, or as a civilian working in a factory making armaments, supplies and equipment for the war effort, etc.

Trumps arrive. He did not acknowledge his predecessors as he arrived. Mrs. Trump and President Obama shake hands. Once seated, the Obamas shake hands with him. Clintons, Carters never looked over to acknowledge him.
Jerry Dunleavy @JerryDunleavy
Watch the clip — politeness all around. The Trumps shake hands with the Obamas. Hillary — further down the pew — nods politely at the Trumps and Bill shakes Melania’s hand. Contrary to how it’s being portrayed, this is a display of civility, not rudeness.

It was a very beautiful ceremony. I loved the eulogies and also teared up when the son George Bush gave his. I watched with no commentary. It was perfect and gave the respect and send off a man like president George HW Bush deserved.

Beautiful ceremony; watched from the grandaughters' readings to W's eulogy. I too watched a channel without commentary.
The Bush family displayed the utmost class and it has been very refreshing not to hear the political jabs, hatred and criticism. This is the way things should be.
-
Now that the funeral is over, the MSM is now reporting that Trump didn't acknowledge the Clintons, Michelle didn't offer a handshake, Trump didn't recite the Apostle's Creed, but the Obamas did and on and on and on.
Perhaps the problem these days is we have journalists who aren't truly journalist. They'd rather gossip then report.

The story told today about then Vice President Bush weeping when he saw a young boy in Europe suffering from leukemia (Robin died from the disease), reminded me of when, not that many years ago, President Bush shaved his head in solidarity with a young boy here suffering from it.

This is a very touching photo as is the moment it captures. But it is not unusual. Every funeral I have attended where a son stands before his father's coffin and offers a glimpse into the man he knew has this moment, sometimes more than one. I've witnessed it from family, friends, colleagues and near strangers --- just without cameras to capture it.
A father loving his children and children returning that love is the norm. It is not rare and it is not unique to the Bush family. Trying to make it so diminishes us all and elevates them beyond reason.

Navy salute to George H.W. Bush: Record-breaking 21-jet memorial flyover in Texas
Navy salute to George H.W. Bush: Record-breaking 21-jet memorial flyover in Texas
by Maria Biery

The U.S. Navy will honor the late President George H.W. Bush with a record-breaking 21-aircraft memorial flyover formation on Thursday when the president is laid to rest in College Station, Texas.
Naval aviators will fly in a "missing man" formation, which typically only involves four planes. The tribute to Bush will mark the largest missing man formation ever performed, according to Navy officials.

Pres. Bush is an adopted Texan. We can criticize him....but heaven help them if a non-Texan does it....lol. Kind of like my sister-in-law.....I can criticize her all I want, but when a non-family member does it...protection mode comes out. happy77
The company I worked for had season Texas Ranger seats right behind where, then Texas Governor Bush sat. He was so kind to everyone. He was an honorable man as was his father. Looking at the 8 years of Obama, I'd say we were dang blessed to have the Bushes.

That I will definitely agree with. I will always say I am damm glad we had President Bush 43 in the White House on 9-11. Can you imagine what would have happened if Obama was president on that day? We would be bowing to our enemies and begging for their forgiveness. If Obama was president then, he would be blaming Americans. I think he does now. Obama never cared for America. He was and is openly hostile to this nation -- a country that gave him everything, most of which it is doubtful he even worked for. His 8-year reign was meant to destroy America and turn it into some third world banana republic. And he nearly succeeded.

It's comforting knowing they are reunited in heaven.
