New York is following in California's footsteps by granting pardons to 18 immigrants who were facing deportation by the federal government.

In a move seen as a rebuke to President Trump's strict immigration enforcement policies, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) granted pardons Wednesday to individuals who were convicted of crimes, but have since been law-abiding members of society for 10 years or more.

Andrew Cuomo
While the federal government continues to target immigrants and threatens to tear families apart with deportation, these actions take a critical step toward a more just, more fair and more compassionate New York.

Why do state-law pardons control federal immigration/deportation law?

Right. Can a State pardon a Federal Crime?

Well, we know the Left doesn't give a single damn about what the 'law' is, so it is a moot point. They simply do whatever the hell they want. They don't care.

It’s not about pardoning a federal crime - that’s not happening - it’s about whether the basis for deportation - conviction for a state law crime - can be mandatorily removed by means of a state law pardon.  I’m curious why the conviction cannot still be considered, even if the pardon must also be considered, simply because a pardon was granted.

Have I mentioned that Andrew Cuomo is a complete @$$HAT?
Any way he can be arrested and charged with obstruction of justice? That is a serious question for you lawyer types out there.

Deport them anyway.

Deport them anyway.

That's my opinion, too.  Just because they're free of the State Laws desn't supersede Federal jurisdiction.  Being an Illegal Alien is a Federal crime, right?

Hate to tell this corrupt POS Cuomo, but his pardons don't mean shit with ICE deporting an illegal.

No, but it gives the States an excuse for turning the druggies and gang-bangers loose to melt into their neighborhoods where the Feds can't find them.

Oceander asked:
"Why do state-law pardons control federal immigration/deportation law?"

And 240b asked:
"Can a State pardon a Federal Crime?"

Time to test the issues and see.

The administration should go and round up a few of these "state pardonees" -- and progress with deportation or other legal actions where warranted.

The state governors (Cuomo and Brown) will object, of course, and probably bring suit in federal court.

Let them. This is exactly what we want.

Then... "push the issues upward" -- and let the U.S. Supreme Court decide.

Death rates are high in the neighborhoods these clowns live in, so this could be a good thing.

States that allow the Feds to shoot Ranchers for trespassing on public lands will refuse to allow Feds to capture illegal aliens who are killing innocent civilians in the Barrios.  Go figure.  Desert Tortoises are more important that humans.
