Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday that an Obama-era program granting young adult illegal immigrants tentative legal status in the United States is illegal and will be phased out over the course of six months.
The Trump administration opted to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to give Congress time to pass legislation that could offer a permanent solution for young illegal immigrants, who were brought to the U.S. as children and have grown up here.
“The executive branch, through DACA, deliberately sought to achieve what the legislative branch specifically refused to authorize on multiple occasions,” Mr. Sessions said Tuesday at the Justice Department. “Such an open ended circumvention of immigration laws was an unconstitutional exercise of authority by the Executive Branch.”
Mr. Sessions said Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Elaine Duke opted recessed the program and to wind down the program over a six month period.

Sessions gave a very good account of his decision.

The worst part is yet to come. Obama has vowed to post a strongly worded post on Facebook!
So, we all have to hold our breath for that!

DACA, DACA, DACA dominated the news all weekend. I had to turn the sound down with Tom Perez out shrieking his opposition this morning.

This is one of the most adult actions to come out of the Trump administration, bar none. It stops an arguably unconstitutional executive action but gives Congress plenty of time to protect the people the executive order was supposed to protect.
Congratulations, Mr. Trump, on letting the adults have a say in something.

I'm not convinced that there are any real 'adults' in Washington D.C. They all tend to behave like petty children.

Pretty smart move. Ball is now in Congress' court. If they do nothing, then all the media sob stories will be on them.

"Spontaneous: walk outs in Denver and Phoenix (maybe more) as those without critical thinking skills demonstrate why they are dimocraps.

DACA was an illegal act.
It was an extreme Executive branch over-reach.
It nullified existing law that was passed by Congress.
But DACA was not passed by Congress. Dictator Obama put it into action without any Legislative approval.
Obama exceeded his authority.
As for illegal immigrants who are "children" (under the age of 38), they were not going to be deported in the next six months anyway. There is always room for compassion and patience, and Trump has made it clear that removal of illegal immigrant gang members is a priority anyway.
DACA should have been declared illegal and immediately eliminated without a grace period.
Now Trump has put undue pressure on Congressional Republicans - who will lose public support no matter how they support this junk.
A comprehensive approach to illegal immigration is needed (and was promised by Trump).
Wall, anchor babies, returning illegal immigrants to their country of origin ... it all needs coordination

Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“When President Obama unilaterally created DACA, he unlawfully overstepped his executive authority and only put a temporary band-aid on a problem which prolonged uncertainty for many children brought here through no fault of their own. The Administration’s decision today puts the onus on Congress to address this challenge in the right way: for the long-haul, with respect for our nation’s laws, a desire to enhance the integrity of our borders, and a sense of compassion for those who were brought here in their childhood years ago and wish to stay as productive members of our communities. I’m eager to get to work on a permanent fix and call on Democrats and Republicans alike to immediately put political posturing aside and let this be a catalyst to achieve long-overdue reforms in this important area of concern.”

Phase it out? He tweeted that he wants it legalized.
Does anybody really think Trump wants an end to DACA? He met with "Dreamers" in 2013 and told them their arguments convinced him.
It's another dramatic Trump announcement followed by backpedaling.

Right, and let them know you're bluffing if they punt. First rule of the art of the deal!
Face it, this is the immigration version of the AHCA.

I've always thought of myself as just being of average intelligence. There is the small consolation that I'm finding out I was wrong about that and there are a whole bunch of people dumber than I am. Even people who have (supposedly) made a lot more money than I have.

Probably one of the most shocking lessons I ever learned was that some on our side could fall for the same things that sucker Dem voters in.
I guess it was arrogance to think otherwise, but...
