In January, the New Yorker magazine's David Remnick asked President Barack Obama about ISIS who had raised the black Islamic State flag in Fallujah in Iraq and in Syria.

The President answered, “The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant. I think there is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

Monday, White House Press Secretary  Josh Earnest claimed Obama wasn't referring to ISIS but the many different al Qaeda extremists.

It's worked for 6 years. Democrats, and the White House in particular, can make any claim they like without fear. The palace guard media will either bolster the claim, or ignore it if it's simply too stupid to support.
