Title: Texas: Abbott says abortion fight is far from over

AUSTIN — The 2017 legislative session is still about 90 days away, but Gov. Greg Abbott has already promised to open a battlefront on one of the most contentious issues in modern politics.

Speaking last week to the Texas Alliance for Life, the first-term Republican said he'll ask lawmakers to make it a crime to sell fetal tissue. The move, part of what Abbott called his "life initiative," signals that although the Supreme Court this summer struck down Texas' major restrictions on abortion, the governor does not intend to walk away from the topic.

"The sale or transfer of fetal tissue by an abortion clinic must be criminalized in the state of Texas," Abbott told members of the organization. "Texas will be the most pro-life state in the United States of America."...
