It is that day of the year again, so perhaps a general thread on music from that era.
Some of this history and songs we may know all to well.
If one wishes to go even to the '40s; a lot of that music is very good too. It's all good.

I've thought "white sports coat and a pink carnation" sounded a bit corny; but this band from Ireland picked it up and covered it very well. A new perspective on the song. Again Irish singing this.

I also opened this up because all of the songs are worthy but what is amazing are the many songs that we may not know.
We know most of Elvis', I was listening to him last night but there were many other artists back in the day.

You were talking about Hoyt Axton, I found out that Hoyt's mother co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel" (Elvis); so he comes from a musical family. Hoyt and his mom are in the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

From what I understand, J.P. Richardson (Big Bopper) had come down with the flu on the tour so he asked Waylon Jennings to give up his seat on the plane & Jennings did so. For the final seat, guitarist Tommy Allsup "lost" a coin flip to Ritchie Valens...

She is releasing a new album in 2017:
She hasn’t sung a note in a year or too and her regular appearances at veteran reunions have come to an end. In 2015 Dame Vera Lynn wasn’t well enough to attend the 70th anniversary celebration of VE Day. But she is still among us and on 20 March she qualifies for a telegram from Her Majesty. To celebrate, her original label Decca have dusted off some of the old tunes from the war and subjected them to a spot of spit and polish.

There is a pretty good bio here, @TomSea . She brought Motown to the UK, was described as the finest white female soul singer, and was inducted into the US and UK Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, (the feminine equivalent of knighthood, making her Dame Dusty..) Really, quite a career.

The Settlers - The Lightning Tree (was the theme song for a tv show called "Follyfoot")
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkJYSDdVnsE#)
The song is a limerick or something;
Down in the meadow where the wind blows free, in the middle of a field stands a lightning tree.
It's limbs all torn from the day it was born for the tree was born in a thunderstorm.
Grow, grow, the lightning tree, it's never too late for you and me;
Grow, grow, the lightning tree, never give in too easily.
Down in the meadow where the wind blows light, the lightning struck in the middle of the night.
Limbs stripped bare by the lightning flare the lightning flare was a wild affair.
Down in the meadow where the wind blows cold, the lightning tree stands stiff and old.
Branches bent when the lightning rent the lightning rent from the firmament.
Down in the meadow with the wind in the west, the lightning tree faced up to the test.
Its heart went snap when it took the rap, the terrible rap of the thunder clap.
Down in the meadow when the wind blows free, a whispering breeze in the lightning tree.
Dreams come true if you want them to if you want them to, then it's up to you.
One of those one-off songs, love it...

Bernadette Castro - A Girl In Love Forgives
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o-2G_4K2hI#)
She's an interesting singer, her family sold cars or made them? I forget, there were also the Castro Sisters. Just thought I'd post this, not necessarily a great song to me. Good song though imho.
Little Esther - T'aint Whatcha Say It's Whatcha Do

IMHO, this one is pretty good, they call it "Jump Blues".

@pookie18
Thanks for the info.
It sounds like Bernadette has been quite involved in the Republican party per that wikipedia article. All very interesting.

This was the longtime Castro Convertibles logo, based on Bernadette Castro's opening one of her father's inventions:

Different song,
Jerry Lee Lewis - Milk Shake Mademoiselle
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCHEYg9lLOY#)
Production in the first song isn't that good but the song is okay. Jerry Lee's song has great production. Not the first time, that different songs have the same title. Much of the music was very good but often, one finds it was derivative.

There is almost some overlap with that new "music for squares" thread, so, I've got to remember, not to put much rock and roll into that one, but this kind of fits it. Good song.

Before you came, we had some thread, this day in the history of rock and country and whatever else that was relevant. That took some upkeep but it was interesting and I think we went through over a whole year of music.
