Blame America.

Canadians have taken to practicing pocketbook diplomacy in defense of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is caught in a trade war of words with President Trump, by boycotting American goods and canceling vacations to the United States, according to a report.

Shoppers are shunning Kentucky bourbon, California wine and Florida oranges, and avoiding American companies like Starbucks, Walmart and McDonald’s, Canadian network CTV News reported on Wednesday.

On Twitter, hashtags like #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts and #BoycottUSA are spreading as outrage over Trump’s trade tariffs grows.

An Ottawa man posted a “Trump-free grocery cart” full of products from Canada or from “countries with strong leadership.”

Vacationers said they would be staying up north this summer instead of booking trips to the US.

Winning!

Maybe Justin Bieber and Samantha Bee can move back to Canada while they're at it.

I'm guessing they won't be able to hold out very long.

Does that include those medical 'vacations' Canadians come down to America for? You know to see the sights that are so common here, but rare and elusive in Canada.

Well, I'm getting some meds from Canada because my overpriced insurance won't pay for them.  So I can't fault the Canadians for coming here for treatment.

Pretty sure Americans could give up Molson before Canucks could give up bourbon or Walmart.  :pondering:

@Applewood
I get one for my wife from Canada.   $300 for a 3 month supply from Canada.   $350 a month at the local pharmacy

My Canadian in-laws are members of a travel and cultural exchange group called Friendship Force, which organizes seniors groups to visit each others' countries and stay in members' homes.  I was very sad to hear that the next group coming from Florida to Ontario CA has had trouble finding hosts because they don't want to interact with Trump supporters ;(.  I thought that was the main point of Friendship Force.

My mother had distant cousins in North Bay, Ontario and for a number of years, Dad would pile us all into the old jalopy for an annual road trip to see them.  Nice people.  In fact, almost everyone we dealt with up there were warm and kind.  I think the only people who weren't so friendly were the French in Quebec province.  In those days there was always talk of separating Quebec province from the rest of Canada.  Hasn't happened so far, but the French speakers seemed to always be openly hostile to English speakers, including Americans.

But overall, I loved Canada.  Couldn't live there, what with the cold and the big government socialism, but I have nothing against most of the people.  Canada has always been a good neighbor (certainly better than Mexico).  I would hate like hell to see our two nations become enemies.

Years ago, back during the Reagan Presidency my wife worked in an office with two Canadians, her boss and a coworker. One time her boss gave a party and I went with my wife, we sitting with her boss, coworker and the coworkers husband who was also Canadian. The coworkers husband got a few under his belt and started bitching out Reagan and America. Having had a drink or two myself and beyond caring if it cost my wife her job, I asked him who the F'k invited his back bacon ass to America to begin with and told him if he didn't like it here to pack up his whiny socialist ass and go home. To my surprise my wifes boss told the jerk that I was right and he should either shut up or go home. :patriot:

That's funny that jackass had that opinion. Brian Mulroney was probably one of the most pro American PM's I can ever remember. He was pals with Reagan if I recall.

Canada has long maintained a high tariff wall on most dairy products. The duty on milk is 270 per cent. That keeps most imports from the United States and elsewhere out of Canada, while helping to prop up higher domestic prices.

As was part of our previous trade agreement, along with tariffs we had.

Then we started to evade that by using a process not developed at the time of the agreement.

Yes, we accepted a trade agreement that was not fair to US producers.  It needs to be fixed.  There was no motivation on Canada's part to make a fair agreement.

We have no reason to stay with a losing policy until the end of time.
