If you don't have a slate of alternate electors, there is no one to approve in the event they are needed. They were not fake, but alternates, like an understudy ballerina isn't fake, just ready to step in if the star of the show can't show.

Michael Cohen's ex banker Gary Farro finishes testifying; court takes 15-minute break

Gary Farro, who testified that he helped set up a shell company that Michael Cohen used to pay off Stormy Daniels, is now off the stand.

Farro said that Cohen did not tell him that the company would be used to pay an "adult entertainment" star, and that he would have "certainly" asked "additional questions" if he'd been told.

"It is an industry that we do not work with," he said on the stand. "We might consider that a reputational risk."

The trial will resume with a new witness after a 15-minute break.
