DOJ requests 40-year sentence for man who assaulted Paul Pelosi
By

.

The Department of Justice is requesting a 40-year sentence against the man who broke into the Pelosis‘ home and assaulted Paul Pelosi with a hammer.

David DePape was previously convicted by a jury of not only assaulting Paul Pelosi but also attempting to kidnap then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Prosecutors argued that a sentence of 40 years in prison was needed to assure elected officials that they wouldn’t live in fear.

“Here, it is not the public that needs protecting, but the public officials. Our public officials should not live in fear of their lives, but attacks like the defendant’s breed fear and dissuade people from running for office or otherwise taking roles in the public sphere,” prosecutors wrote. “At this moment in time, this defendant continues to present as a strong risk—to the Speaker Emerita and others—because of his failure to accept responsibility.”

Prosecutors also justified the sentence given DePape never expressed remorse for his crimes.

“The defendant seemed proud of what he had accomplished,” prosecutors wrote. “Hours later, when interviewed by Sergeant Hurley, the defendant also expressed no remorse about nearly killing Mr. Pelosi, and instead explained the other targets that he had not been able to reach.”

Texas Democrat Judge Dismisses 211 Border Rioting Charges Filed Against Migrants

by RANDY CLARK 10 May 2024

In a setback to the prosecution of migrants involved in a massive border breach in March, El Paso County Court at Law #7 Judge Ruben Morales dismissed 211 individual cases involving migrants charged with rioting at a border crossing. According to Morales, a procedural error transferring the cases from the local district court to his county court meant he lacked jurisdiction and was obligated to dismiss the charges.

According to a report by the El Paso Times, Judge Morales, a Democrat, issued his ruling during Wednesday’s court sessions, saying, “If I don’t have jurisdiction, there’s nothing I can do on these cases except dismiss them.” The cases stemmed from an incident on March 21, near an area known as “Gate 36” in El Paso, where hundreds of migrants stormed past Texas Army National Guard soldiers. Several soldiers sustained injuries as a large group of migrants breached concertina wire and “no-climb” fencing, hoping to surrender to the Border Patrol.

This is the moment when TX National Guard became overrun by migrants rioting to get across the border here in El Paso today

We were there and saw it all happen. Absolute chaos here.

The migrants will be released to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and will be processed for asylum or removal. At a Thursday press conference, Republican District Attorney Bill Hicks told media representatives he felt strongly that appropriate procedures were followed and that his office intends to appeal Judge Morales’s ruling. El Paso County Assistant District Attorney Kyle Lasley, who represented the state in the riot prosecution case against the migrants, also disagrees with Morales’ dismissal of the cases.

At the press conference, Hicks told reporters if the court of appeals reverses Morales’s decision, arrest warrants will be issued for those migrants who have been released into the United States. Any of the accused migrants who have been removed from the country will face charges upon re-entry.

Democrats look to flip the script on border security as Republicans decry ‘political’ stunt
By

May 11, 2024 5:00 am

Border security is a topic congressional Democrats once shied away from. Now, they’re embracing the politically charged subject as a winning election-year issue.

Democrats see an opening to score goodwill with voters on a policy that’s top of mind in polls, but that has been a political nightmare for the party due to a surge of illegal southern border crossings under President Joe Biden.

With the GOP dominating immigration among voters, Democrats are looking to be buoyed by a bipartisan border proposal that sank in the Senate earlier this year under the weight of conservative backlash, including from presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Senate Democrats say Republicans can either work with them to revive the lifeless legislation or be forced to vote it down again in the coming months.

“The reality is that they’re exposed. They don’t want to fix the border. They don’t want to have to vote on this again,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), the lead Democratic negotiator on border issues, told the Washington Examiner. “Right now, the Democratic Party is the only party that is serious about fixing the border. We’re going to continue to give Republicans opportunity to vote with us to secure the border and let the American public see who’s serious and who just wants to complain.”

Red State Slapped With Lawsuit Over Law Allowing Officials To Arrest, Deport Illegal Immigrants

A number of civil rights groups filed a lawsuit against the state of Iowa on Thursday for passing a law allowing authorities to arrest and detain some illegal immigrants.

SF 2340, signed by Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, grants local and state law enforcement the ability to arrest and press charges against illegal immigrants who have outstanding deportation orders, or who have reentered the U.S. after being previously deported or denied access to the interior of the country. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Iowa and the American Immigration Council are suing Iowa over the law on claims that it is unconstitutional and will disproportionately affect the state’s immigrant population.

“Supporters of this law say they passed it because they are tired of the way the federal government and the current administration is handling immigration enforcement. We can all agree that our immigration system needs improvement, but this law is no solution,” Erica Johnson, founding executive director of Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice, claimed in a statement on Thursday. “Instead, it increases fear among Iowa’s immigrant communities and overwhelms local groups who are doing the real work of finding solutions and creating thriving communities.”

Israel ordering new evacuations in Rafah, preparing to expand operations
by Filip Timotija - 05/11/24 8:03 AM ET

Israel is ordering new evacuations in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians are sheltering, as the country is preparing to expand its military operations.

People in Rafah were told by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to head north to the Al Mawasi area. They were also instructed to head west of Gaza City as the IDF looks to brace for what they say is a Palestinian militant group Hamas’ rebuild in the area, according to IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee’s early Saturday post on social media platform X.

The call for Palestinians to flee the area comes as Israel has faced opposition internationally in its quest to perform a full-scale ground invasion of Rafah. President Biden said earlier this week that he would withhold sending bombs to Israel if the country does go ahead with a full-blown operation in Rafah.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), one of the major aid agencies providing food, shelter and medicine to Palestinians, said that “at least” 300,000 people are affected by the new notifications to move out.

The agency estimated that around 150,000 people have fled Rafah since Monday.

Immigration/Border / How Denmark Beat Mass Immigration

How Denmark Beat Mass Immigration

Denmark Flag
Michael McManus

Open-borders apologists usually portray mass migration as an unstoppable force that national governments are powerless to stop. However, Denmark has shown that good policies can and do reduce mass immigration and protect a country’s economy. The Scandinavian nation has drawn a line in the sand and has kept the migration–related problems like gang violence seen in neighboring countries to a minimum.

One important policy is strict limits on family reunification. Arranged marriages with spouses from diaspora countries of origin are a major driver of immigration into Europe. These marriages frequently see young girls with no education and limited language skills being forcibly married off. This frequently results in welfare dependency and an increased fiscal burden on taxpayers. To counter this, Danish law requires that the spouse/fiancé be at least 24 years-old and that they attend mandatory Danish language and integration classes. There is also a requirement that financial sponsors earn more than the welfare rate and that the home they will live be is large enough to support a family.

During the migrant crisis of 2015 and 2016, when over 1.5 million Middle Eastern, African, and other migrants headed for Europe, many were bound for Denmark. Copenhagen then announced it would cut the welfare payments to asylum seekers by $750 per month. As news filtered through the migrants’ cellphone chat groups, they made the decision to go to Sweden instead as Sweden was still open to all (they have since seen the light in this respect.) The migrants candidly told a Danish TV crew that the announcement of cut welfare was the thing that made them abandon plans to go to Denmark and head to Sweden instead.

Bring Them Home: The Five Americans Still Held Hostage by Hamas

Elizabeth Weibel 10 May 2024

There are still five American hostages being held by Hamas. And though our leaders seem to have forgotten them, the American people have not.

Hamas murdered 1,200 people in Israel in the October 7, 2023, terror attack, and took more than 250 hostages. While some hostages have been freed, there are still roughly 130 hostages still being held by Hamas — not all of whom are still alive.

Five of them are U.S. citizens.

The five American hostages who are still in Hamas’ captivity are; Keith Siegel, 65, Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, Omer Neutra, 22, Edan Alexander, 20, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.

Here is a brief description of each.

Biden Says Trump Should Have Injected Himself with Bleach: ‘Wish He Had Done a Little Bit’

Elizabeth Weibel 10 May 2024

President Joe Biden said during a fundraiser Friday in San Francisco, California, that he wished former President Donald Trump had injected himself with bleach.

While speaking at the fundraiser on Friday, Biden referenced a false claim that Trump had once suggested people “inject bleach” to help treat the coronavirus, saying he wished the former president “had done a little bit himself,” according to the Jerusalem Post.

“Remember him saying the best thing to do is just inject a little bleach in your arm?” Biden said on Friday. “That’s what he said. And he meant it. I wish he had done a little bit himself.”

As Breitbart News has previously reported, and as the White House transcript showed, Trump never suggested that anyone should inject bleach into their arm.

Trump’s comments were in reference to experimental UV technology and how it might possibly be used in the human body.

According to the White House transcript at the time, Trump said:

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. So I asked Bill a question that probably some of you are thinking of, if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous – whether its ultraviolet or just very powerful light – and I think you said that that hsn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that too. It sounds interesting.

ACTING UNDER SECRETARY BRYAN: We’ll get to the right folks who could.

THE PRESIDENT: Right. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds – it sounds interesting to me.

When asked later by a reporter for clarification about whether Trump was referring to a disinfectant being “injected into a person,” Trump explained that “it wouldn’t be through injection.”

Quote
Aaron Maté, a leftist Canadian who writes for the fringe conspiracy-theory website Grayzone, has recently become a favorite source for the far-right fringe of the MAGA universe, the fringe that prefers to “Make America Guilty Again.”

Don’t buy it.

Maté just produced a long-read article on Ukraine for RealClearPolitics. Because of RCP’s credibility, his error-riddled “investigation” into the origins of the war in Ukraine is gaining a readership, even in congressional circles.

Indeed, Maté’s polemic is full of distortions.

His central claim: The Russia-Ukraine war is the spawn of intervention by the Obama-Biden administration, which supported and directed a coup in 2014 by Ukraine’s “far-right” — a claim that echoes the most persistent theme of Russia’s propaganda machine.

The truth: As anyone in Kyiv during those turbulent months (as I was) knows, the Maidan protests of 2013-2014 were led and directed by democratic, pro-European politicians and supported by the mass protests of hundreds of thousands of ordinary middle-class citizens from Kyiv and around the country.

EXCERPT

This story deserves it's own thread since I've seen this absurd nonsense argued everywhere, especially by the pro-Kremlin crowd at TOS.
