“Joke†should be in quotation marks. There isn’t a shadow of a doubt that he would do that deal if it were on the table.
Greenland, for one, was not on the staff’s list of priorities for the week. But while Mr. Trump has long derided nation-building, his flirtation with nation-buying turned out to be more serious than many originally thought. He has been talking privately about buying Greenland for more than a year and even detailed the National Security Council staff to study the idea.
At one point last year, according to a former official who heard him, he even joked in a meeting about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland — happy to rid himself of an American territory whose leadership he has feuded with repeatedly.

This is hysterical, but also a match made in heaven. The Puerto Ricans would get cradle to grave welfare, the Danes get a winter colony, and we get a place to send prisoners.

It is okay for you and others here to joke about this - but it is not okay for a president to make a foreign country/US possession the object of a joke. Every word he says means something to the whole world, and action can/may be taken by these countries/possessions based on his words thoughtless tossed around. Also, languages spoken by foreign countries may not translate this and other "jokes" as a joke but as a reality.
Cyber, I actually worry about this every time he gets on twitter and starts in on countries, calling them and their leaders toxic names and threatening to do whatever to them. He must think he can say whatever he wants and no one can act against him as president. That was true in his business, he said and did whatever he wanted (however, he was always involved in law suits against him).
