Trump to meet with UK prime minister during first week in office

President Trump will meet with U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Saturday.

The visit will mark Trump's first from a foreign leader in a clear signal of the administration's dedication to the "special relationship" that has long characterized U.S. relations with Britain.

What's more, Trump has often spoken favorably of the "Brexit" movement that shocked most political observers last summer when voters opted to leave the European Union, ousting May's predecessor. The results of the Brexit referendum have drawn many parallels to Trump's surprising ascent to the presidency.

During an appearance Saturday in the James S. Brady Briefing Room, Spicer said Trump had spoken Saturday with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and noted the two had had a "constructive conversation" that included provisional plans to meet in the near future.
