Kamala Harris uses debunked abortion death story to attack Trump, rally Dems in Georgia
By Diana Glebova

Vice President Kamala Harris cited a debunked report Friday to blame former President Donald Trump for the death of a Georgia woman following a medically induced abortion — despite experts saying doctor error was to blame rather than Peach State restrictions on the procedure.

Harris, 59, spoke at length during an Atlanta rally about the August 2022 death of Amber Nicole Thurman, 28, who suffered a fatal infection after taking abortion pills that did not expel all the fetal tissue from her body.

Left-wing outlet ProPublica published a story detailing Thurman’s case on Monday — headlined “Abortion Bans Have Delayed Emergency Medical Care. In Georgia, Experts Say This Mother’s Death Was Preventable” — triggering outrage among the left.

The Democratic presidential nominee claimed repeatedly Friday that Thurman had died because of Georgia’s so-called “heartbeat law,” which went into effect after the Supreme Court — including three justices nominated by Trump — voted to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

“You see, under the Trump abortion ban, [Thurman’s] doctors could have faced up to a decade in prison for providing Amber the care she needed,” said Harris, who at one point led the crowd in repeating Thurman’s name.

Georgia election board orders hand count of votes in US presidential contest

Georgia's Republican-controlled election board voted on Friday to require a labor-intensive hand count of potentially millions of ballots in November, a move voting rights advocates say could cause delays, introduce errors and lay the groundwork for spurious challenges in the battleground state.
The hand-count rule is the latest rule change passed in recent months by a pro-Trump conservative majority of the board who say they are attempting to make the Nov. 5 election more secure and transparent.
Voting rights groups say the changes could allow rogue county election board members to delay or deny certification of election results, throwing the state's vote into chaos, while the state attorney general's office warned the board was likely exceeding its statutory authority with some of the moves.
Georgia is one of seven states likely to determine the contest between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
In the 2020 election, Trump lost Georgia to Democrat Joe Biden by fewer than 12,000 votes out of approximately five million votes cast. Trump has maintained, with no evidence, that the result was tainted by fraud.
The hand-count rule, which passed in a 3-2 vote, was denounced by election administrators and poll workers who attended the meeting and opposed by Georgia's Republican-led secretary of state and attorney general's offices.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, the state's top election official, said ahead of the meeting that the rule would introduce "the opportunity for error, lost or stolen ballots, and fraud."
As the hearing began on Friday, members of the public, including county elections supervisors, poll workers and voting rights advocates, urged the board to vote down the hand-count rule, arguing it would create logistical problems, funding shortfalls and security concerns.
Several also contended that it was too close to the election to be altering procedures.
"We have started. The election has begun," Ethan Compton, the election supervisor for Irwin County, told the board. "This is not the time to change the rules."..........................

Microsoft deal propels Three Mile Island restart, with key permits still needed

Constellation Energy (CEG.O), opens new tab and Microsoft (MSFT.O) have signed a power deal to help resurrect a unit of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania in what would be the first-ever restart of its kind, the companies said on Friday.
Key regulatory permits for the plant's new life, however, haven't been filed, regulators say.
Big tech has led to a sudden surge in U.S. electricity demand for data centers needed to expand technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Nuclear energy, which is nearly carbon-free and broadly considered more reliable than energy sources like solar and wind, has become a popular option for technology company's with uninterrupted power needs and climate pledges.
"Nuclear plants are the only energy sources that can consistently deliver on that promise," Constellation Chief Executive Officer Joe Dominguez said in a statement.
Constellation's shares were up more than 20% by early afternoon to $251.42 and have risen more than 100% so far this year.
Power from the plant would be used to offset Microsoft's data center electricity use, the companies said.
A relaunch of Three Mile Island, which had a separate unit suffer a partial-meltdown in 1979 in one of the biggest industrial accidents in the country's history, still requires federal, state and local approvals.
Constellation has yet to file an application with federal nuclear regulators to restart the plant.
"It’s up to Constellation to lay out its rationale for justifying restart, so we’re prepared to engage with the company on next steps," said Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) spokesperson Scott Burnell.
Constellation said it expected the NRC review process to be completed in 2027...................

Biden's Long Shadow        :reaper:

The latest New York Times/Siena College poll has some cautionary data for Kamala Harris and the KHive. The Times found Harris winning Pennsylvania by 4 points, just outside the margin of error, but deadlocked with Donald Trump nationwide. While Harris beats Trump by 13 points on who best will handle abortion, Trump beats Harris by 13 points on the economy, 12 points on the border, and 8 points on Ukraine.

Among independents, Trump leads by 4 points. Asked if Harris represents change or more of the same, 52 percent of voters said more of the same. By contrast, 59 percent said Trump represents change. He's the disrupter in a year when, according to RealClearPolitics, 61 percent of voters say the country is on the wrong track.

Harris shoulders a burden: Joe Biden. The president's job approval remains low at 42 percent. His personal favorability, also 42 percent, lags behind both Trump's (45 percent) and Harris's (49 percent). This makes Harris's job more difficult. Running for the White House as a sitting vice president is hard enough. Yet the two most recent vice presidents who did it benefited from having bosses who were more popular than they were. That is a luxury Harris does not enjoy.............

.............No miss has been greater than Biden's retreat from Afghanistan. Yes, Trump inked the deal with the Taliban. But that doesn't mean Biden had to abide by it when the Islamic militia fired on U.S. troops and moved to conquer Afghan cities. Biden's obsession with leaving the country by the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks endangered U.S. personnel, U.S. materiel, and countless Afghan allies and civilians.

The botched evacuation led to the deaths of 13 U.S. service members. American citizens were abandoned. And the fallout was only beginning. The Taliban has reimposed its medieval, nihilistic rule, resuming public executions, and subjecting Afghan women and girls to a terrible fate. ISIS-K has regrouped. The spillover affects Pakistan, a nuclear power. There's a reason Biden's job approval never rose above 50 percent after the Afghanistan debacle. It was his worst decision by far.

There have been plenty of other mistakes. The Biden foreign policy is an index of error. Entries include the belief that concessions on energy and arms control would pacify Vladimir Putin; pandering to the United Nations and the Palestinian Authority and Iran; and calling for cuts to defense spending as global risks multiplied. Building diplomatic off-ramps for Vladimir Putin didn't dissuade him from launching the first major land war in Europe since 1945. Endlessly negotiating with Iran over its nuclear program did not put out the ring of fire that the mullahs had traced around Israel. Real cuts to defense spending—before factoring in the effects of inflation—eroded the U.S. deterrent and defense industrial base. Russia, Iran, and China noticed............

..........No end is in sight. Biden's concept of "escalation management" has prolonged these conflicts and made them more dangerous. He's slow-walked aid to Ukraine and restricted its use, giving Putin an edge and putting America in the ridiculous situation where we won't provide Ukraine weapons because we're worried about our own stockpiles. His endless and futile quest for a ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas has convinced the terrorist group that it has a chance of victory. Israel faces U.S. pressure while Hamas's handmaidens, Egypt and Qatar, sit and watch. Meanwhile, Iran ramps up its nuclear program and plots its next move...............

'Openly totalitarian': Footage surfaces of Harris threatening to storm houses of law-abiding Americans for surprise gun checks

A 2007 clip, coupled with Harris' claim that she hasn't changed her values, has come back to haunt the vice president — and 2A supporters.

A 2007 clip of Kamala Harris threatening to storm the homes of law-abiding Americans for surprise gun inspections resurfaced this week, renewing concerns about what version of the vice president is now seeking her boss' job as well as about the fate of Second and Fourth Amendment rights should Harris get what she wants.

The footage was taken at a San Francisco press conference where then-Mayor Gavin Newsom and then-San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris discussed anti-gun legislation on which they had collaborated.

Harris suggested that the possibility that "some kid" might steal a legally acquired firearm justified the government in violating law-abiding owners' privacy and in running roughshod over their rights.

"We're going to require responsible behaviors among everybody in the community," said Harris. "Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs." ...................
