Netherlands to expand euthanasia law, allowing doctors to end lives of children under 12

The Netherlands is set to pave the way for legalized euthanasia of very young children.

According to the NLTimes (https://nltimes.nl/2020/10/13/euthanasia-proposal-readied-children-aged-1-12) Tuesday, the northwestern European nation, which already has some of the most liberal euthanasia policies in the world, is likely to expand its law to permit children ages 1-12 to be euthanized in certain circumstances. The practice is already legal for youth 12 and older and was already possible for infants in their first year of life.

The expansion requires the child being euthanized to be terminally ill.  ...

In America, we call that murder.

That is, unless you are the Governor of Virginia, who wants to end a newborn's life if an abortion is botched an a healthy baby is born.

I suspect that a "terminal" illness would be a flexible and fluid concept.

Terminal Hangnail diagnoses are going to increase.

Netherlands Gets Ready for Child Euthanasia

The Netherlands is about to expand its euthanasia law to allow children ages 1–12 to be killed by doctors. (Children older than 12 already can be euthanized). From the NLTimes (https://nltimes.nl/2020/10/13/euthanasia-proposal-readied-children-aged-1-12) story:

Terminally-ill children between the ages of 1 and 12 will likely be granted access to euthanasia, Health Minister Hugo de Jonge told Parliament on Tuesday. End of life procedures carried out by doctors in the Netherlands were already possible for infants up to one year old, and for children above 12 years old.

There is no reason to think the “terminally ill” limitation will last, much less be enforced. After all, babies in the Netherlands are euthanized under the Groningen Protocol (https://www.nationalreview.com/2005/03/pushing-infanticide-wesley-j-smith/), both because of terminal illness and serious disability.

Children are already subjected to terminal sedation — that is, being put in an artificial coma and dehydrated to death. ...

Child euthanasia comes to the Netherlands
Posted on October 15, 2020
By Jonathon Van Maren

The Dutch government is preparing to legalize euthanasia for children between the ages of one and twelve.   ...

Note that the Dutch euthanasia regime, with the Groningen Protocol as well as the new proposal, has completely dispensed with the standard hitherto used by assisted suicide activists in most Western countries. Activists argue that consent and the right to bodily autonomy justify so-called “end-of-life care”—but by expanding these deadly services to infants and children, euthanasia advocates have abandoned that pretense. A one-year-old infant cannot choose to die, and children legally barred from voting, consuming alcohol, or driving cannot understand what the offer of a quick and painless death really means.

When a doctor gives a lethal injection to a suffering infant, regardless of his motivation, he is killing that child; he and other adults have decided that child is better off dead. We used to understand how wrong that is. The Dutch government—and medical professionals tasked with the preservation of life—appear to have forgotten.

Why not just start shooting those the authorities don't like on street?

Seems if one takes on step in that direction, one might as well be efficient about it.

More and more it looks like the future will include pock-marked walls for someone.
