Researchers used advanced computer modeling to simulate a nuclear explosion They wanted to see how an intercontinental ballistic missile would impact the buildings Windows, corridors, and doors are the places to avoid while taking shelter....

I would have hidden under your desk anytime.

When did those silly exercises end? I started First Grade in 1963, and have no recollection of crawling under a desk like that.

We did it in 1961 as part of a Civilian Defense drill. I might have been the last of a generation to "Duck and Cover"

I never experienced it at all that I recall...My father was USAF and we lived overseas most of the 50's and went to schools on the bases...I sure don't remember doing it.

From the article
"The most dangerous critical indoor locations to avoid are the windows, the corridors, and the doors," lead author Dr. Ioannis Kokkinakis from the University of Nicosia said in a media release. "People should stay away from these locations and immediately take shelter. Even in the front room facing the explosion, one can be safe from the high airspeeds if positioned at the corners of the wall facing the blast."
Almost sounds like instructions if a tornado is nearby...

Dunno, but we were doing it when I was in 1st and 2nd grade, (School about 25 miles from the D.C. line, back in '61-'63).

It's cute and all that, but does not allow for a first strike (preemptive strike) simulation on current missile fields or bases.

Yep! Howdy! :seeya:
