UPDATE: The Abbott campaign just emailed me to clarify the numbers. The Davis campaign raised $8.5 million, the rest comes from Battleground Texas.
Shot.
UPDATE at 5:50 p.m.: Wendy Davis, the leading Democratic contender for governor, announced Tuesday that her campaign and a joint effort with a Democratic voter turnout group raised more than $12.2 million for the race.
Chaser:
I think it's great that Wendy Davis raised $12 million. That's $12 million that Democrats won't be spending on races they could win.

I tend to agree with Gabe. Davis has a lot of high profile support from liberal media and entertainment types which is translating into donations from around the country but won’t turn into votes.

Even if every Democrat and Democrat leaning voter turned out for her, she would still not win.
It would be like Ted Cruz trying to run for the Senate in California or New York.
Almost every penny she is raising is coming from out of state. Few Texans are willing to donate money to a lost cause. They'd rather spend it on legislative races since they can usually flip one or two (while losing about the same number) each election.
