Get ready for a BIG fight tomorrow as Kevin McCarthy still trying to win over House Republicans to become Speaker
JAN. 2, 2023 9:42 AM BY THE RIGHT SCOOP
Kevin McCarthy is still struggling to win over five House Republicans in his bid to become Speaker of the House on January 3rd.
Yesterday he met with these Republicans and offered a rule change to make it easier to force a vote to fire him if he doesn’t do a good job.
Here’s more from Fox News:
Prospective House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is still tussling with some members of his party who are concerned electing him to be speaker would be a “continuation of past and ongoing Republican failures.”
Last week, the California Republican floated a congressional rule change that would make it easier to remove a House speaker in exchange for his rise to the post, a key demand from powerful GOP opponents.
Under current rules, which were imposed under House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, only a member of the House leadership can offer a motion to vacate, while the new proposal would allow any member of the House to force a vote to remove the speaker, at any time.
On Sunday afternoon, McCarthy met with GOP members to try and rally support for his speakership vote on Jan. 3, when the new Congress takes office. The embattled Republican leader conceded rank-and-file members will be allowed to call for the speaker’s removal, though he wasn’t clear about how many members would need to sign on to the motion, according to reports.
The meeting came after his letter on New Year’s Eve, titled “Restoring the People’s House and Ending Business as Usual,” which was his admission of the deep dysfunction of the House of Representatives and his pitch to make it right.

GOP lawmaker teases ‘true’ conservative alternative to McCarthy ahead of Speaker vote
BY STEPHEN NEUKAM - 01/02/23 10:09 AM ET
Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) predicted on Monday that a “true” conservative would emerge to challenge House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in his quest to become Speaker and doubled down on a promise to vote against McCarthy one day ahead of the leadership election.
“I think you’ll see on the second ballot an increasing number of members vote for a true candidate who can represent the conservative center of the conference, can motivate the base,” Good said on Fox News.
McCarthy, who launched an unsuccessful bid for Speaker in 2015, has been busy trying to nail down the 218 votes necessary for victory. But dissent from some on his right has taken his campaign for the position down to the wire.

Even Nostradamus predicts his Election. :smokin:
What does 2023 hold for us? Well, let’s just hope Nostradamus’ predictions were wrong
Updated: Jan. 01, 2023, 5:10 p.m.|Published: Dec. 31, 2022, 2:21 p.m.
It looks like we have made it to 2023, and there’s no doubt that just about everyone is counting on this year being better than the past couple.
After several years of pandemic and just about everything else bad, it just feels like we are due for a good year.
Right?
Well, not according to Nostradamus. In fact, the ancient astrologer, whom History calls history’s “most famous seer,” apparently had some pretty troublesome predictions for the year ahead. And History says tucked in the quatrains of the astrologer is a line that reads “seven months great war, people dead through evil.”
That would make 2023 pretty darned terrible.
He also has a prediction in there — “the light of Mars will go out”— that reads as though, perhaps, our quest to get to Mars will end, the site says.
It has to get better, right?
Nope.

McCarthy will be speaker and will be elected on the first vote even if he has to resort to Democrat votes to get there.

I think he'll eventually get to be speaker, but only if he does what "The Five" wants first.

Gingrich: ‘Never McCarthy’ House Republicans Have a ‘Psychological Problem’
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said Monday on FNC’s “Fox & Friends” that Republican House members attempting to block Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) speaker bid have a “psychological problem.”
Gingrich said, “I think it’s a psychological problem. These guys can’t count straight. They can’t play tic-tac-toe. They can’t accept victory.”
I truly do not understand what they are doing. They don't have an alternative candidate ----- nevermind a viable one.
They have won concessions in rule changes, including calling for a vote to remove the Speaker at any time when 5 members agree ----
They have put themselves in a position of owning McCarthy and the agenda -----by demonstrating they have the votes to stop anything.
"What the hell are they doing?" is a fair question. And "Why are they making conservatives in the House the face of irrationality?" is another one.

Then all the more reason for Gaetz to explain his rationale for continuing this after the concessions he has won and the power he has secured.

Doesn't matter. At this point it's all just rearranging deck chairs on The Titanic.

@Right_in_Virginia .. you believe that any "concessions" will stand? Within 48 hours after he gets elected, the concessions will disappear and it will be back to pelosi style dictatorship.

"Failed" is determined by the goals.
The underlying goal is impowering and enriching the uniparty - and it has been very successful at that.

But that is (supposedly) not what the party base voted for.
His leadership in the minority was... inconsequential... to be kind.
That don't warrant another swing at the pinata.
Step off and let someone else ascend.
And the very same goes for MurderTurdle.

It's not an anti-Trump contingent. It's an anti-Liberal and anti-Establishment contingent. Unfortunately, Trump is both a liberal and supports the Establishment.

McCarthy struggles to win support for Speaker with hours until floor showdown
BY EMILY BROOKS - 01/02/23 6:43 PM ET
With less than 24 hours before the House is set to vote on a Speaker, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has yet to lock up the votes to secure the gavel.
McCarthy has made some late concessions and overtures to the right flank that weaken his own power and aim to address its requests to take a more aggressive stance against Democrats and the Biden administration.
But those who have declared opposition to him are not wavering, and critics who have not declared how they intend to vote are showing signs of stronger resistance to McCarthy rather than support for him.
“The fact that we are now approaching the eleventh hour is not the fault, or is not the responsibility, of his detractors. It’s his responsibility, and the blame lies with him,” House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-Pa.), who has not said how he plans to vote on the floor, told The Hill on Sunday.
Additionally, the Club for Growth, an influential conservative group, is urging opposition to a Speaker candidate who does not make other concessions — measures that McCarthy is unlikely to support.
With 222 incoming Republicans to 212 Democrats, McCarthy can afford to lose only four GOP votes if every member votes for a Speaker candidate.
Despite the uncertainty, McCarthy has started moving into the Speaker’s office in the Capitol that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) moved out of over the holidays.
But there is no name plate, yet, above the entrance to the Speaker’s suite.

Trump endorsing McCarthy, a rat dwelling member of the swamp says what exactly?
Trump keeps digging a deeper hole for himself. He is done politically. With all the systems folks I know, they feel betrayed when he INCREASED the H1-b Visa Program to humor the jackals that spent billions to deep six him. The irony is so think you could cut it with a knife.
FAUCI AND COLLINS HAVE TO ANSWER FOR THE MASS GENOCIDE WITH COVID. SO TOO DO TRUMP AND BIDEN.
The USA as a nation is finished as a republic. With fixed elections, the republic is dead. What we are left with is the carcass, and the bones will be picked soon enough. Our permanent financial collapse is not that far off. Congress is utterly clueless, or otherwise they would be listening to the holdouts, and they are pressuring them to capitulate. The form of gridlock is them not having the ability to do anything. I love gridlock, and there was a day I thought I would never say that.
